HI WIC, glad the cat is on the mend.
Regarding kids
Check local swimming pools, they often have cheap swim days in the holidays, ours do a £1 session.
Get hold of some really big boxes, start saving small boxes, lids, colourful paper, magazines etc, buy some cheap rolls of masking tape (this can be coloured on) cheap felt tips/ paints and let the kids loose with the lot in the garden on a sunny day.
Find a local cycle path and have a bike ride.
Print pictures of various objects and stick onto paper and then go around local area doing a treasure hunt, have easy things like lamp posts, white van, dog and then harder things, maybe a small prize if they find 10 objects such as an ice cream.
See if anything free is on at the library.
Make papier mashey money boxes using blown up balloons (messy but can be done outside)
Can't think of anymore at the minute.0 -
ooo i used to love making those balloon shell money box things!
just popped by to say "Yay half way!" - also the council in my area do kids sports days for £2 or £3 for a half day - some days they do football, rugby, circus skills (!) etc and cater for all ages.:rudolf: DF by Xmas 2018: #83 £8,250/£15,000 55% :rudolf:
SPC 7: #135 :staradmin | MFW 9.72% | Groceries: £6.49/£80 | Exercise 0/20 | NSDs 0/150 -
Those are some brilliant ideas... thankyou!
:D:D:D
I'm not usually one for paints and crafts because of the mess they make, but if the weather holds and I can let them loose in the garden - no problems...
We are lucky enough to be close to the coast as well so fingers crossed for a few nice days at the beach.
We've just been over to our local park with a friend for a bit of football and frisbee which the kids have really enjoyed.
DD said to me that she was pleased I was still off work because she's never seen me so happy. And DS has had the best 2 weeks of behaviour I've ever known at nursery. I suppose my stressy mood was really rubbing off on them both.
And hi Jonesy - thanks for popping inNinja Saving Turtle0 -
Little tip - if the kids have been painting/sticking outside, fill the paddling pool up afterwards add some bubble bath and let them have a water fight, easiest way of getting them clean before letting them in the house.0

Sounds like a good thing you have all this time off I hope you start to feel the benefit soon.
60 mile round trip for school? Being nosey but why is that? Sounds expensive and time consuming, do you have to do that before and after work when you are working?0 -

DD is in the primary school attached to the comp that I work at. It works out brilliantly for childcare etc, because the out of school club for the primary is actually in my building. I need early childcare as my work is 15 miles from home and I need to leave at half seven in the morning. So it made sense to put the kids into school near my work - then I can get them into breakfast club and me into work on time. And should there be any accidents etc, I'm literally just in the next building.
It works well - or has done for the past 4 years. Now I'm not at work I'm doing the 15 miles and home again twice a day. Just a short term thing though. :cool:Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
I'm really not sure if they are allowed to ask me to do this, but work have been in touch with me - chasing up some planning that had a deadline of this week. I am going to do it, but it would be nice to have the time off and not even be thinking about work for short term. I don't know if it's worth my contacting my union but I'm really thinking about it.
Sent me straight for the chocolate. Now I have to go out and buy chocolate for ds to replace what I've eatenNinja Saving Turtle0 -

Get some advice from union. I am guessing they know why you are off. Probably not illegal but certainly insensitive - there will be a protocol somewhere - did you ever chase up your schools health and well being policy????Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

There doesn't seem to be one in existence. We used to have a health and wellbeing group at school and wellbeing cpd sessions but they stopped over the past couple of years and there's nothing in place.
I've been watching a piece on our local news about measures that nhs have put in place to help their workers before they go off sick. There's certainly nothing at all like that at our place. It's all about meeting targets and not caring how we get there.
I actually feel quite down today. Worse than I have for a while. I've sat in and worked on the school stuff but I need to make sure that I get out and about for a bit - get some fresh air.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
Some days I feel rubbish - other days I feel great. Today I feel great. Today I actually feel motivated and like doing something good. :jI'm going to get that school work out of the way while I'm feeling like this - then I needn't sit and get hung up over whether or not they should have asked me to do the work.
Wonder if the weather makes a difference? Sun is out again today after hiding for a couple of days.:T
Checked my bank this morning - need to be really careful. Being off work has made me dip into the pot a bit more than I usually would. Be it down to boredom, having the time to go out etc. I don't know but my bank balance is looking way less healthy than it normally does and it's only the 12th of the month! Me and the kids are off for 4 days to a caravan park in a couple of weeks... We're going with a friend and her son who's the same age as mine. It seemed like a brilliant idea at the time but I suspect that both of us may come back more frazzled than we go. But I am looking forward to it - can't remember the last time I went on holiday with a friend rather than the whole family (my hubby couldn't get the week off work).
So, plans for today...
I'm up to date with the washing so no need for that.
School run
Collect my sister's order from the butchers for her (he's my friend's hubby and we get a discount)
Try not to spend anything other than in the butchers
Seeing a friend at 10, who will pep talk me and motivate me
Stay out of the sun over lunchtime
Get the schoolwork done
Diet hard
Hmmmn. We'll see... I hope my mood will lastNinja Saving Turtle0
