  • Thanks Scottishmummy, £6 per month discount would be okay for the reassurance it gives.

As the green levy on bills is about to be scrapped and placed onto general taxation, there should not be a problem with the boiler replacement scheme should there? Ok, I have seen hints that the time period is going to be extended which means that it will take even longer than some here have experienced but ultimately people should still be able to get a new boiler under this scheme or at least that is how I see it.
  • The 'warm homes element' of £12 quid a year will, not before time move to progressive rather than the regressive. Distribution has agreed a £5 reduction per year. No specific detail on ECO [the insulation tax], now I make that £17 quid in my favour not £50. The current 'green' stealth tax is £112 [average annual] so essentially taking money from the fuel poor [ECO] will nett a minimum of £23 - £23 + £12 + £5 = £40 by diluting the ECO scheme to help the fuel poor, the other £10 to £12 will be shifted on to general taxation.

More Paul Daniels No 10 policy magic.................. while 29% more pensioners [compared to the previous year] lost their heatbeat last year from the UK cold related winter.

We applied for a free boiler from NPower, it took ages for them to sort after we had the initial contact (about 4 months from call to installation). There were a few !!!! ups along the way and even after the installation we were getting calls saying that we had been approved, even though the boiler had been installed. The guys who installed the boiler were great and very efficient. The boiler is also very good. I hope that this helps and puts some faith to the people that are having 'issues'. Please try and be a little patient and keep calling them for updates.

Just the same for me. Started in July enquiring and today N power are installing new boiler - A Baxi boiler. Very hard working lad doing job. Anyone had experience of Baxi boilers? Not up and running yet.
  • I beleive the Baxi and Potterton like i am having fitted Tomorrow ( are pretty much the same boiler and get good recomendations.

Hope the fitting goes well, been waiting since june myself and have had to do weekly calls and pestering to get mine done with Carillion via SSE.

    hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could advise me as I've been told by british gas that my boiler is broken as I have the wrong pipes to the radiators. I've been told I need to change the pipes from 15mm to 22mm for all the pipe connections from my boiler to the radiators. They have sent me a quote for £2934 as it is not covered by my british gas homecare agreement.
I have a small house and have 7 radiators. the quote is as follows:

    powerflush, £719
    pipes, 22mm, and 20metres of length, £480
    pipes, 15mm, and 2metres of length, £40
    drain system, £175
    labour (16 hours), £1520

    total is £2934,

note, I'm not changing the boiler or radiators as I'm keeping the old ones. Is this price for real? do I really have to change the pipes to 22mm?

They said I would be better off putting in a new boiler, £2700 but then they would leave the pipes as it. sounds like a contraction as well.

please help with advice as I have no hot water and am freezing!:(
  • To be honest,id use checkatrade and get a couple of quotes from independent fitters.Reading blogs like this, everyone says bg is expensive.

Boiler all installed yesterday. Cylinder didn't arrive but has turned up today and installed. Electrician coming tomorrow then a builder sometime to sort the brickwork. All looking good so far. Good luck with yours.

I would definitely get a price from a local heating company. That price is extortionate, especially the close to £100 per hour for labour.
  • After waiting and being messed around by Eon and Dyson saying I qualify for a boiler grant. Now 5 mins before they all close for the weekend told I do not qualify as my boiler is classed as grade b and if it were working it would be efficient???!!! First I have ever heard of it, they never said this could happen before, didn't say anything on the application so what was the point of applying? I have an over 10 years old broken boiler, no money whatsoever, have the qualifying benefits yet turned down 3 months later because my boiler would be efficient if were working! Never heard so much rubbish! I find the scheme misleading and this scheme is not for all who qualify and living in poverty. So unless I win the lottery, looks like goodby to warmth and hot water! What a great start to the weekend and beginning of winter!

Has anybody else had a similar experience?
