Hi all,
Isnt it interesting, you got to two different shops and get totally different opinions depending on what they sell. Anyway, we have been looking around and quite liked the looks of either the Pevex Bohemia x40 Cube Stove and the Fireline FX5W.
There are a few reviews around the internet on alternatives in the Pevex Range but little on the Fireline. Phoning a shop for a quote on the Fireline and was told they wouldnt sell them as they are cheap chinese rubbish!
Can any body pass any comments/experience on either of the above?
Many thanks

Would be better off in the solid fuel section, I'll pm a mod to get it this thread shifted.
As for my pov steer clear of the Chinese makes, many you cant service properly, they are often inferior quality and really are bad. As for the other make I cant say I have heard of it personally and I know there are a hell of a lot of stoves out there.
If money allows go for a decent make, you are investing money at the end of the day into an appliance so invest in something solidly built and with good reputation.
Hunter Aarow Jotul Stovax Aga Clearview Charnwood as well as a few more are all good solid stoves, easy to get parts for and nearly all have great reviews. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
thanks mucky. I hadnt realised there was a section - i dont frequent the rest of the forum often!
Are you confirming that the fireline is Chinese and you havent heard of Pevex?
Thank you0 -
Not being a stove supplier I couldn't say if the Fireline is Chinese or not.
Many imports are all the same just rebadged so ideally you want to have a word with a few dealers and get their take on them, as for the other Pevex - never heard of them !
I'm a sweep so sweep many different designs of stove etc and have to say the imports are diabolical in so many ways, I certainly wouldn't go for anything that isn't approved by hetas or defra or the solid fuel association, that's just my two penneth though.
I say you will get a lot more response on the other forum, ive pm'd the mod so they'll move it so don't start another thread over there as it'll all get messy lolYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Top man. Thank you0

Hi ey_up,
I've moved your thread over to the LPG, Heating Oil, Solid & Other Fuels board where you should get more replies.

I'd not heard of fireline myself either until very recently.
They are part of a british companies range but, and this is where it gets a bit messy, it doesn't mean they really make it.
Could be an import with a badge or it could be truely british made.
You could ask them if they make their own or if they are importers.
They should also be able to tell you suppliers local to you and where you can see a model in "action" should you wish.
I've got a couple of year old stovax 5kw stove.
I was intending to get a jotul but their "multi-fuel" system is a total pita.
I tend to burn wood but want the flexibility of smokeless fuel when i'm too busy to be tending the fire every hour or so.
Muckys given a pretty decent list of ones that i'd consider worth looking at.
I can only think of morso, dunsley and Efel (euroheat) that i'd really add to the list.
Efel was my favourite "in use" but the price was just too much.
It might be super efficient and easy to use but the extra £700+ buys a lot of fuel0 -
We're getting a Fireline FP5W installed next month so I can tell you then! It is a British brand based in Telford, according to its website - but I don't know where the actual stoves are built.0

This is a pretty sorry state of affairs but it isn't new. I've complained before about stove retailers telling what I've known to be a pack of lies about a stove simply (one has to assume) because they don't happen to stock it.
The stove market is a bit 'wild west' I'm afraid. It attracts a lot of chancers who think they will cash-in on a fashionable market. My advice would be to ask people you know and trust - stove owners especially - and if you ask a retailer, then try to find one who has been in business for some years and has a good local reputation (although, in truth, I hesitate to even say that - the retailers in my area are a pretty poor lot).
Mucky makes a very good point about buying British. Even if you aren't motivated by patriotism, buying a stove that is made here by a British company does at least suggest you stand a chance of getting spares over the years. An imported stove could leave you high and dry. I'd only risk it with one the long established imported brands like Morso or Jotul.0 -
I bought a parkray for my house in England - and paid about £700.00.
then I bought one for my french house, didn't want to spend as much and bought this:

It is so much better that I am considering taking out the one at home and replacing it!
I'm not on commission or anything, but thought I'd point out that price is no indicator. My french one is awesome - it boils kettles, heats water in pans on the top - it even cooks casseroles if I stand the pan on it whilst we are busy.
We are really pleased with it.0 -
I sweep a couple of Pevex stoves and they seem good design in general, 2 baffles and a good secondry air supply, steel stoves not cast but thats the cost of them, not sure about the others could be as others have said justa rebrand.0
