To be fair to Sony, they did release a statement of sorts that ICS might be too much for their 2011 phones with 512mb of RAM..then released an update, anyway, after which the phone was a laggy piece of crap.
I didn't have the time or patience to flash a custom ROM so lived with that dire model for about a year.

I have an HTC Desire S now coming to the end of it's two year contract. I jumped at the chance of upgrading the OS from Gingerbread to ICS - a promised upgrade that they kept in the dark a little - and now I see why. The upgrade has given the phone a nicer look but it's not as reliable as it was. Not all upgrades are really advantageous. The missus has a HTC One X on Jelly Bean. It works great and it probably won't get upgraded any further.
