Agree, that it an excellent summery of the issues. Personally I think what would work best would be that where there are mandatory requirements that only one should show. This should either unlock everything else, or unlock another mandatory field, and so on. This would be so much clearer, because that way whatever was available to do would always count when done. I realise it would mean that a host couldn't have more than one absolute mandatory item, but it would be close to that as they would work as a hierarchy.

Anyway, obstinate me, I still believe that it's not worth worrying over. Personally I still say that doing the ones you want to do will count, most of the time. Ok I concede that this might mean the occasional wasted effort, but then it also saves effort in having to read each one carefully, so it's probably quicker to go ahead and just do what you want/can. The reason I'm sticking with this as advice is because they're complicated enough to learn doing it my way. I think if people feel they have to read it all carefully, or do everything, my guess is that it will just put people off doing them, which would be a shame.

But I also think this is/has been a useful discussion. Thanks for your input Di and hope you get somewhere with your suggestions.

    Hi,

I would be grateful if you would pass this email to the relevant department/person, if that isn't you.

I am a member of a competition forum and some of us have been having a bit of a debate about Rafflecopter comps that you may be interested in reading for feedback. You might even want to add something? If you do, then you will need to register:

Yeah - admittedly I don't think that "mandatory" and "optional" are the best choice of words anymore. I say anymore b/c we've been using those word choices since we launched Rafflecopter several years ago when folks were running giveaways on their blog through comments, and that was how giveaways were set up. Back then it made sense b/c that's what everyone was calling them, but now I can see how it might be confusing.

When we run giveaways on our FB page or blog, we usually have one "mandatory" entry option or none at all and just list 4-5 different entry options. I think it gets confusing when folks have more than one "mandatory" entry option.

Suppose you have 3 mandatory entry options and 6 total entry options, you can still complete 1 or 2 of the mandatory entry options, never access the other entry options, and have a chance to be chosen as a winner. Our system gives entrants points into the giveaway the moment they complete one entry option. In other words, we don't recognize if each entrant has entered all the mandatory entry options and then only give them credit if that's the case.

Because of this, a large chunk of the responsibility falls on the admin to be clear about how to enter their giveaway in their terms & conditions.

But at the same time, I don't think our app is set up well in this regard.

Maybe a name change? Instead of "mandatory", we could call it "locked"? Or only give giveaway admins the ability to have one "mandatory" entry option instead of multiple?

Hopefully this helps! Shoot us an email at support@rafflecopter.com if you have any other questions... one of the four of us should answer!
