The way I run mine is the same as all the other I've posted on this thread...

I'd assume 'mandatory' would mean exactly that for example if a facebook competition needed you to "like and share" then only doing one of these won't get you entered if that makes sense?

If it said like and share (1 entry) - then yes, agree, should do both
If it said like (1 entry) and share (1 entry) then that would imply you could do just one to gain one entry and if you do both you get 2 entries.

On Rafflecopter, the number of entries goes up per item entered - so to me, logically, this would assume that these are legitimate entries - and to remove them appears unfair. It just never occurred to me it would be otherwise, otherwise really it should state do the next 5 steps to gain entry into the competition and unlock more entries.

If you don't want to name your blog so I can avoid it, then if someone else could let me know I would be most grateful...
however, if yours is run 100% correctly as you claim, I don't see the problem in showing us an example of one of your own comps? I only want to avoid wasting my time on that particular blog, nothing more sinister!

I think we will have to just agree to disagree, but as marg2k8 has said I'd be careful about reading the terms as if blogs are running it as I suggested then you'll be wasting your time entering

Just a side note, when you create a raffle copter you have to tick which entries you want to be mandatory which are then placed at the top with the remaining entries locked. Maybe that doesn't make it clear to people entering but as I run the competitions and enter various ones too I know that the ones already showing will have had the mandatory box ticked to be visible.

Rafflecopter does go up per entry but you can't set it up so both mandatory options are on the same entry or I'd probably use this format.

I am quite happy to say if myself, blulu and marg are all wrong about how we interpret Rafflecopter, we may well be, that's what we are trying to discover! I am just concerned about it being confusing and having entries removed.

Am not saying we are right at all, just want to know which is correct ie if all the mandatory entries are mandatory to gain entry to the comp or only mandatory to unlock the rest of the entries..

Why won't you name your own blog though so I can miss that one out?? Surely it makes sense for everyone, for us so we don't waste time and for yourself so you don't have to remove people.

By all means it is confusing and I've tried my best to explain my interpretation as someone who runs rafflecopters.

As previously mentioned it will depend on each blog, some will run it that all mandatory options need to be completed some may not just read the terms.

If you do read the terms then you don't need to explicitly know my blog, as I make it very clear in the terms that my mandatory options are both mandatory.

Ok.... so I now have to check every single blog comp on MSE to try and work out which one is yours, very sensible!

Can only assume you are posting your own comps or something if you won't name it. Can't see why else you won't say.

No I don't post my own competitions at all as they would be removed, also if you were so confused about rafflecopters surely you'll be checking every blog rafflecopter before entering anyway?

 Look at what I started.

Fortuna, with absolutely no offence intended at all, I genuinely think you are slightly mistaken and perhaps missing the point that Kirri is making. Unless it's me that's wrong and missing the point instead - very possible :D

With RCs it's fine to have mandatory entries. If you have a mandatory entry that is, say, writing a blog comment that is worth 10 ten entries, then this means it's the only one that shows, until you've completed it, thereby unlocking the other entries. Perhaps you can set it so that it unlocks one more entry, which doing that will unlock another one, and so on? I'm not sure about this last bit, but perhaps.

The point is that if 2 entries are showing and one of the states 'do this for 10 entries' then that absolutely should mean that if you do it you gain 10 entries, regardless of whatever else you do/don't do. Anything else is misleading.

None of us should be defensive about sorting this out. It's really nobody's fault. It's just annoyingly confusing. What you want, I'm sure, is to make sure that when you run a comp it's clear and easy to follow. If you are cancelling entries because people completed one stage, thinking that was all they needed to do, then perhaps it would be wise to do them differently, so that it's more of a 'what you see is what you get' thing.

Also, I tried to go to the horses mouth for an answer. I found this:

    http://blog.rafflecopter.com/2012/08/anatomy-rafflecopter-giveaway/

I think it supports what me and Kirri are saying. Read the bit:

"each completed task earns you entries into the giveaway. (Some tasks are worth more than others)" I hope you guys appreciate that this was typed, not C&P - oh the sacrifice

I don't think it's worth any of us fretting over too much, and certainly not worth falling out over. It's not anyone's fault. It really is quite complicated and confusing - hence the initial question from Nellie, who is certainly not alone in finding them daunting.

We should try to move forward from here a little wiser and hopefully with the thing a little clearer.

BTW, I'd been doing them for ages and then realised that I was tweeting the wrong url - duh! How's that for daft - don't answer. All those flaming daily tweets, down the toilet - sigh! You have to tweet the url for the individual tweet post/status - as Fortuna states on her/his guidelines (sorry for not knowing if you're a she or he.)

So why won't you tell us your blog so we can avoid it?

I wasn't confused before - I just want to know 100% that what you are claiming is correct.

    Very well said Blulu.

Kirri my blogs linked from my first post on here and has been all along.

I'd just assumed that 'mandatory' would mean exactly that but hey ho lifes too short for nit picking and I'll be sure to continue excluding people as per my terms for my competitions.
