    Ok.

I got wheel nuts & key like the picture above. Mcgard was never mentioned in this thread so I was nonethewiser

I can send these back (they'll be here today), but is it worth it - ill lose a fiver sending them Back

I Won't lose the key now - I'll keep it in my car

My alloys aren't pristine - who'd want them?

I live in decent area & although I travel around for work, I've never had alloys taken or heard from colleagues or seen cars without alloys - I believe it is a misplaced fear nowadays

So I'm due to go to the garage this pm - I can get him to change the one tyre or replace all nuts (which I should get this morning)

Ps - this is the point - I have no documents showing any numbers as far as I know. Of course, I could ring the original dealer from 8 years ago if its still on their data base - but I guess ford would need to order it in , charge me £20-30 for a new key & single nut & then id have to drive to ford 10 miles away & then the garage again to put the New nut on

Change them all and use your new locking nuts - they are only to stop "kids" nicking them.

when was the last time you have a alloy wheel removed, while sitting on your drive?

i don't think these wheels the op has are anything expensive, for money saving normal wheel bolts will do

I've never had wheels taken as I've always used McGard locking nuts.

I have heard of it happening still from my mate who's a tyre fitter, he seems to think they are taken for the tyres rather than the wheels.

I do remember this story on the dodgy patrol man last year
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4235257/Raidside-assistance.html

    Wasn't even alloys he took.

most mass produced [STRIKE]wheel nuts[/STRIKE] [correction:] locking nuts can be found on ebay. It's always a good idea to buy a spare -ususally the code is engraved into your current wheel nut.

Do people actually still steal standard alloys from old cars?

Maybe I've lived in the country too long.:o

this is something I thought about a few days ago. Same with stereos, satnavs. I don't see people being as vigilant with these things as they were in the 80s [obviously gadgets &valuabules that were equivalent during that time].

I think technology evolves so fast that thieves can no longer sell off stolen stereos, satnavs etc.

They have a generic socket made by a company called Snap-on that will remove the locking nut as quick if not better than the one you had, if they dont, they should not be touching cars.
only works if there is enough space of the socket, hitting the nut with a solid bar and a hammer sometimes works

Why bother with locking wheel nuts on standard rims. Does anyone really steal wheels these days?

With the cost of rubber these days? In certain parts of the UK they'll steal just about anything.
