No - they are not available on prescription. I was told it is because malaria tablets are not required in the UK which seemed reasonable enough. I did however require a prescription to purchase malarone.0 -
Our GP's charge £15 if you wish to take this prescription away to purchase malarone elsewhere - something else to bear in mind when calculating costs.
My GP's charge was £10 however my partners GP did not charge at all so he picked up the prescription for the two of us. I couldn't understand why the charge was so high for a simple prescription.0 -
so you need a prescription and you still pay for the tablets0

I think it's because it is normally issued on a private prescription - so you need to pay for this (if taking away from GPs in our case) and then you have to pay for the drugs in full, ie: not available on a general prescription charge.
Malarone is, I think, generally regarded as the 'rolls royce' of anti-malarials but there are other much cheaper options available which will do the job just as well, providing they are suitable re: the current conditions at the time of travel to your destination.0 -

I am finding it confusing and time-consuming trying to find cheapest tablets - 10 days ago I asked Sainsbury pharmacy how much 21 tablets would be, they quoted me £50 something, Last Friday I took my prescription in (which says exactly same as I asked last week) and told me £66.+. Similarly, last Friday I went to Superdrug with my prescription, who quoted me £53.70; yesterday I decided to go to superdrug and get them - they quoted me £66.90. I have to go and see the same man I saw last Friday today now.0 -
