Three have launched their new PAYG tariff today, looks good.

http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Pay_As_You_Go_Price_Plans

Calls 3p, texts 2p, and Internet 1p per MB, and you get 150mb free with every top up... Got to be THE winning tariff for occasional users...

Seems interesting, I wonder if you can swap an existing payg onto the plan?
  • If you joined after september2010 you will already be on this new tariff..

Probably amongst the best PAYG tariff from one of the networks for a very long time.

Will be interesting to see if any of the smaller MVNOs are forced to follow this 3-2-1 structure. Asda, Tesco, Talkmobile, FamilyMobile et al all now have seemingly expensive basic no-frills tariffs compared to this. 8p/min and 4p/text held as the standard no-frills price for a while, with smaller players like icard and white not really making a massive impact, with giffgaff going the other way and happily upping to 6p/text and 10p/min.

For any low users not persuaded for whatever reason by the Ovivo free offer, this is going to be very hard to beat, isn't it? Great for variable low to medium use too, with no run-on rates to look out for.

If three heavily promote this, others will have no choice but to follow, won't they?

depends on your use i guess. but i much prefer the giffgaff deal 500mins, unlimited texts. 1gb data, just 10 quid

I highly doubt it, there's a lot of people on payg on the other networks who know no better that what they currently use, they are happy with the status quo because they haven't had any problems and it just works, they don't want to move networks and lose their number.

Take my mum for instance, I've tried all ways to get her to move networks, I've tried ovivo but she doesn't like the idea of the ads, I've tried asda and even got her a new phone, yet she's gone back to her chappy old phone with an expensive orange tariff, there's plenty of 'my mothers' around.

You just have to look around at how the networks have remained fairly stagnant even whilst the mvnos have had cheaper prices to realise that nothing is really going to change, three may have mixedit up a bit today, but payg is a huge cash cow with their current model.

    Thanks for this.
    The link includes this gem:

We believe Pay As You Go should offer simplicity and value.
Ah, yes. Simplicity and value. If Three had offered 'simplicity and value' in our relationship, I would probably still be a Three customer. But their customer 'service' put paid to that. :D

This tariff looks good and as it's PAYG rather than contract, it's probably free from customer 'service' contamination.

Pity that if you click on and find a link 'Plan details', it produces a blank page. Oh dear.

Yes, you can, from their website:
Pay As You Go on Three is our current tariff. As well as offering you great value on your calls, texts and emails, it’s the only tariff where we offer the All in One Add-ons, which you can use to get all-you-can-eat data.

If you aren’t currently on this tariff and you want to get the best out of your top-ups, call 333 for free from any Three phone and ask us about moving to Pay As You Go on Three.

    This the link I followed

    http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/
    What it costs.

    Three-to-Three calls 3p / min
Texts to any UK mobile 2p / text
Mobile internet Free allowance of 150MB with every top-up, then 1p /MB
Voice calls to other UK mobiles* 3p / min
Voice calls to any UK landline* 3p / min
    UK video messages 52p
UK video mail 26p / min
    UK picture messages 36p
    UK picture mail 31p
Calls to voicemail in the UK 3p / min

    Add-ons.
You can only get our All in One Add-ons on this tariff. With an All in One Add-on you get more minutes and texts than you’d get with an ordinary top-up. You’ll also get an all-you-can-eat data allowance, which lets you use the internet as much as you like from your phone.

You can get these Add-ons with Pay As You Go on 3

Does anyone know how they charge for their minutes on PAYG, ie do they charge in whole minutes whether or not you use a full minute, or do they charge for the first minute and then each subsequent minute or part thereof?

If I make a call lasting say one minute and thrity seconds, will I be charged for just that or would I be charged for two full minutes?
  • Calls are charged by the minute, and rounded up to the nearest minute, as per page 15 of their price guide.
