My next question is with reference to the free 150mb of data allowance each time you top up.

Is there a minimum amount by which you must top-up?

I note that the account has no timeout period for calls and texts which is great. However, what about the 150mb data allowance? Does that timeout after say 30 days? Or, does it stack up with every top-up forever and a day?
  • I Topped up with £5 and got the 150mb allowance..it does only last 30 days though, after that 1p per MB.

So is £5 the minimum by which you can top-up?

Is the 30 day timer on the old PAYG tariff or do you believe that this new tariff imposes a 30 day timer on data?

According to the 3 website the free 150MB lasts for 30 days on the new plan. No mention of the older plans (where it used to be 45 days).

1p/MB for data is ideal for those with an iPad or another data-only device that only needs occasional mobile data.

I bought a new 3 sim today and after a £10 credit my account is showing the 150 MB data with an expiry of 31st July, so yes it looks like 30 days on the new tariff.

Interestingly the guy in the 3 shop said the 150 MB data with a top-up didn't apply to the new tariff but it is definitely showing in my account on the brand new sim.

Other PAYG plans have daily data charges which can add up fast if you use data daily so this tariff is perfect if you're a light user but need data every day.
  • It definately applies to this new tariff, well its in the price guide anyway, it applied to my top up as well (which was only £5) so maybe better to top up in £5 increrments...

I have just taken out a 3-2-1 PAYG deal, which seems to be excellent value for my purposes.

    However, looking at their tariffs:

    Three-to-Three calls 3p / min
Texts to any UK mobile 2p / text
Mobile internet Free allowance of 150MB with every top-up, then 1p /MB
Voice calls to other UK mobiles* 3p / min
Voice calls to any UK landline* 3p / min
    UK video messages 52p
UK video mail 26p / min
    UK picture messages 36p
    UK picture mail 31p
Calls to voicemail in the UK 3p / min

I can find no mention of calls to premium numbers such as 0845. Are these charged at the same 3p/minute rate?

Once Regulation 41 of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Payments) Regulations 2013 bans the use of 084 and 087 numbers for customer service lines from 13th June 2014, you should almost never need to dial them.
