you have to meet certain speed limits to be classed as 4G.

It's fine, nobody has met the original 4G speed requirement, no matter what technology they're using.

Apparently there is a printable leaflet on their retail portal.

Assuming you have a package that includes tethering, on the iPhone you go to settings, personal hotspot, and turn it on for WiFi. The hotspot uses WPA2 secure access. You can then connect to the internet via your phone using up to 5 WiFi enabled devices, such as Kindles, other phones, laptop, iPad, etc.

Your hotspot will broadcast the name you gave your phone, with a password of your choice. The name and password can of course be changed. Beware the default setting for password has been reported to not be as secure as it might appear (4 not so random letters and 4 numbers), you are recommended to change it for something longer and more secure.

The responses and link still don't answer my question 100%. The link, and other official Three statements, only states you can move to 4G at no extra cost. If this is financial cost then what is to stop Three from offering The One 4G tariff matching the price of their 3G tariff with a cap of say 1-2GB? "It still costs the same and you get 4G just like we said".

Unless you can provide a link that clearly shows the sentence "customers will be able to keep their unlimited data plan, at no extra cost, when 4G is launched" or something similar I will still be skeptical. They may infact do as you've said at launch but at the moment it seems like a bit of an assumption.
  • No-one truly knows what will happen, of course, so why not just go with the 1 month commitment SIM? £18/mth for what they are offering is a killer deal imo - plus should they renege on their 4g promise you can be out of there in 30 days. I personally would be reluctant to commit myself to any mobile supplier for more than 30 days in these uncertain times, especially when the 30 day SIMs are such good value.

Totally agreed. There is no reason to commit to 12 months now if you are expecting 4G with your phone.

I am looking to move to Three from Virgin as their data service has been shocking recently. I'd like to sign up through Quidco, but since the new plans are not live yet. Could i sign up now and then later phone then to change over to the new price plan?
