Kettle broken 2 months out of guarantee :(

    GO to powerhouse... purchase exactly the same kettle.

    Keep hold of the receipt.

    Leave it about a week, then you can take back the faulty one :) (or do I mean the new one !!!)

    Lets ignore the obvious ethical implications of this advice for a moment, the chances of the same model of kettle being available in any store 14 months later is slim to say the least.
    Write to tefal (not email) tell them you always buy their appliances because of their quality and reliabilty and how surprised and disappointed you are with the faulty kettle. Be nice. It never fails to amaze me how many people go in all guns blazing and then are surprised when it gets them nowhere.
    Retail is the only therapy that works

    Just go and buy another kettle, not Tefal, they really are available so cheaply that it isn't worth worrying about.

    I bought a Tefal kettle from Powerhouse on 02 Mar 2006 - the kettle broke yesterday. I think the element has broken, as the in use light comes on but the water does not get hot.

    Powerhouse ceased trading last year. Anything I can find online, states to take faulty good to the retailer for refund / replacement etc.

    The kettle came with a leaflet, stating that Tefal guarantee it for 12 months from purchase.

    Do I have any legal (or other) rights to to refund, repair or replacement, given that it broken only 7 weeks outside the guarantee period?

    Why have that hassle? Write a nice letter to Tefal and if that doesnt work, buy a new one! :beer:

    Over the years this type of thing has happened serveral times to us.
    I always write a 'nice' letter explaining that I bought their product because of 'name' was built to last, quality product etc.
    Also ask if this is a known fault in this batch of kettles, because all the other Tefal products you've bought last years.

    I've always had either a replcement product sent as a gesture of good will, a voucher, or % off a new product from the manufactures website.

    As others have said, write to tefal saying how disapointed you are, that you'd chosen such a well known brand & paid more than others on display because you expected it to be more reliable & last longer.

    If that fails, there are cases where people have taken companies to court & got a refund even though the item is outside of the guarantee period. The court will consider what is a reasonable time for the goods to last. Most people would expect a new kettle to last more than 14 months.

    What's wrong with repairing things that are broken??

    Well you can pick up a new 1 in my local Tesco for £5. If you wanted to buy the broken part you would have to spend the time and money driving to a shop, buying the part, fixing the part, seeing if it works. If it doesnt then you have wasted time and money... Like it or not we live in a society that doesnt repair kettles... That's my opinion...! :rolleyes:

    I disagree we should go back to a time where we repaired items not just replaced them frequently with low quality products.

    I'd rather buy one good quality kettle and get it repaired when necessary than loads of the cheapo Chinese £5 which only last a year or so...

    It's getting to the stage where all you can buy is cheap throwaway junk...
