Kettle broken 2 months out of guarantee :(

I bought a Tefal kettle from Powerhouse on 02 Mar 2006 - the kettle broke yesterday. I think the element has broken, as the in use light comes on but the water does not get hot.
Powerhouse ceased trading last year. Anything I can find online, states to take faulty good to the retailer for refund / replacement etc.
The kettle came with a leaflet, stating that Tefal guarantee it for 12 months from purchase.
Do I have any legal (or other) rights to to refund, repair or replacement, given that it broken only 7 weeks outside the guarantee period?
regards,
Richard

Have you tried contacting tefal and ask them if they can do anything, my mums hairdryer bust like 2 months outside of its guarantee and she contacted the makers of it and they sent her a new 1 free of chargeNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Ask very nicely and they might give you a voucher for a new one, out of 'goodwill'.0

When our Tefal iron broke after 15 months I emailed saying how I was disappointed and whether there is anything I can do since it is obviously out of guarantee.
They rang me back and offered me a gesture of goodwill - 25% off any other Tefal iron that I found on their website and free delivery - Just told me to ring back with the model number.
They have really good customer service. Definitely contact them.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

You can get a kettle from Asda or Tesco for under £50

Always worth an ask - we took a TV back to Asda that was two months out of warranty and they exchanged it0

GO to powerhouse... purchase exactly the same kettle.
Keep hold of the receipt.
Leave it about a week, then you can take back the faulty one
(or do I mean the new one !!!) 0 -

I'd say Argos as it's easier to get a refund there.0 -
