Someone in my team just got engaged!!! Man I'm jealous!

Whilst I'm happy for my colleague I feel jealous at same time (her and my other engaged female colleague are now talking about insurances to protect their rings!) I know itmakes me totally selfish and espeically having just looked at the HUGE rock on her finger but when will it be my time :S....hubby isn't working at mo so wouldn't be able to buy a ring as he wou'ldn't feel ready to but I'm starting to get impatient! I'm not going to ask him as really I'd prefer he did.

Has anyone else felt like this?

You have a hubby but no ring? Or you call your partner hubby?

I'm married and prefer my husband to anything he has ever bought me..If my partner were out of work I'd certainly rather they centred themselves and their career and got that in place. Engagement rings are just a bit of froth and sparkle. Love is the really important thing.

I'm confused, you have a husband (assuming here, as hubby is short for husband) but your jealous someone is engaged? You've done that though surely...if you're married?

Assuming you're calling your boyfriend hubby, is the ring really the bit that's important to you?

'hubby wouldn't be able to buy a ring'?

Do you just want to be engaged, or married? The wedding will cost more than a ring. If he can't afford the ring, how do you expect him to contribute to the wedding?

Alternatively, if you just want to be engaged because it makes things feel more serious, how about getting engaged without a ring? It's not an essential part of the deal.

If you just want a big ring, why not buy your own?

    Hubby ?

Either he's your husband -and the engagement ring ship has sailed ..........or you want him to be your husband-and he hasn't proposed-perhaps because you've made it clear than an engagement ring needs to be a "rock".

I got engaged a couple of months ago -we chose the ring together. We are both working but I'd have gone mad if he spent a fortune on the engagement ring . I chose a ring we both love - at below the agreed budget. It isn't about the size of the rock it's about what it means. I met up with a load of female friends I don't see often this week -and got some lovely compliments about the ring (even though it's not a rock :) ). A engagement ring is a promise and a symbol -it shouldn't be a status symbol though.

There's a Waiting for a proposal thread on the Weddings forum-you might get more understanding and sympathy there :)

Also confused by the whole hubby bit.

Anyway my now wife did admit at point she did get a little bunny boiler about me not proposing, she admitted a few times she thought I was going to and I didn't and seh got really mad at me, of course she didn't have a go at me as you can't do the whole "why haven't you proposed yet" can you.

On the other side the ring isn't important but what it means is, as it is my wifes left hand is now insured for £3200, interestly I paid nothing like that as I got the ring custom made which involved sourcing a diamond myself. To contrast my left hand isn't insured as the ring cost £30, but it is exactly what I wanted and is harder than any metal (tungston carbide and carbon fibre).

Weddings don't have to cost a fortune.

To me, being married was more important than a massive expensive wedding. (In my experience of friends and family, the bigger and flashier the wedding has been, the shorter the marriage has lasted)

Like most things, weddings can be as cheap or expensive as you want.... just a question of priorities really :)

Indeed, but neither do rings. A £20 ring will do for the engagement. If 'hubby' can't afford that, then a wedding probably isn't something he's comfortable committing to right now.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them being engaged for a long time, either, but it sounds more like the ring is the OP's priority, rather than the engagement, the wedding or how 'hubby' might be feeling having no money of his own to spend on any of it.

Might not get the flashy ring that way.
