Just watched the midwives, agree it is a lot more pleasant to watch than OBEM. That dad who wanted his wife to have a completely natural birth was really irritating me though, seemed to think he knew it all. Saying that i think he was just supporting what his wife wanted as well.

A friend has had a gorgeous baby boy today, so happy for her abd hubby but it means its my turn next eeek! Midwife tomorrow, assume it'll just be the usual pee check, blood pressure, feel tummy?

    33+6

I think he was just trying to support her but it came across like he was being dominating to me. It was hard to know if it is what she wanted, what he wanted or what they'd both decided on. But I guess he spoke the better English so I ended up not knowing what I thought of him but finding him irritating nonetheless! My 34 week check was the usual pee, measure, hb and then a bit of midwives flapping as I'd missed some checks! Also asked where I wanted to give birth :)

I don't and can't watch OBEM. I find it incredibly irritating to be honest.

I did manage to watch 1 episode of that midwives program abut 3 weeks ago. It dealt with about 4 women who were all very high risk pregnancies for 1 reason or another and I could identify with that. I did find one of the midwives very annoying though - the woman she was looking after had terminated a pregnancy (their first little girl after 3 boys) at about 23 weeks due to fetal deformities and was pregnant again with another girl. This poor woman was terrified, understandably, and had the midwife spoken to me the way she did to this woman I would have slapped her :) For a midwife who was supposed to be a specialist in bereavement she had very little compassions for how scared this poor lady was. Anyway, it all ended happily and she gave birth to a massive whopper of a baby! During the same episode a little Thai lady (who's partner was Polish) gave birth to identical twin boys after needing an emergency section under general and they were actually the cutest little things I have ever seen <3

  • Hi ladies,

Just want to say something over the birth centre hospital dilemma, I was adamant I was not giving birth in a hospital (they scare the xxxx out of me) our local birth centre is on its own, 30 minutes away from the local hospital with a delivery suite.

I had the same thoughts of "would I give birth in a ambulance?" "Do I want the stress of transferring" however if your pregnancy is complication free then there is no reason as to why you couldn't give birth there and although the pain is hard work, I never once thought through labour "this pain is going to kill me"

Being in a birth centre was so relaxing, the midwives where with me throughout their shift, one on one, the atmosphere was calming and by no means clinical but I def got the impression that me and my partner were looked after and cared for.

However, if you want reassurance of pain relief and being in the right place for an emergency then by all means go to the hospital. But personally if I can I will labour at the birth centre every time (if I'm that lucky!)
Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!
  • Finished work today, what a very weird feeling. To suddenly offically finish my job where I know what I am doing and the thought that my new to be job I know nothing about is just too weird at the moment, as daft as that sounds.

I don't plan on returning until the end of next May and that just seems forever away.

On another note, got these in the post for hubby today. He refused to buy anything from the club shop as said it was too expensive so I had these made for him. He was over the moon with them.

Other than, midwife appointment tomorrow, be interesting to find out how baby is laying. Still convinced though that baby is free as have felt no pressure at the bottom of my tummy at all.

I'm nothing, lol. As an aussie I find soccer as I call it totally boring. I support a team in Australian Football which makes hubby very happy as of course he's not bothered about me getting AFL stuff.

My dad supports Leeds though so I bet baby ends up with something Leeds related, my dad keeps threatening to get something, hahaha.

I personally wouldn't even consider having baby at birth centre for me it's more important to have the medical intervention available if I need it, my last pregnancy was straight forward but the birth awful ventouse delivery 3rd degree tear with babies heart rate really low I can't imagine going through that in an ambulance or even going through that then having to travel 30 mins in an ambulance to be stitched up, I've also known 2 friend have there baby at the birth centre then have to be transferred to the hospital because of problems with the placenta etc don't want to scare people it's just my perspective on it, if the birth centre is in the hospital then that's a different thing all together but ours is in a different town altogether

Best get to bed up for school run early tomorrow night all xx

Busy "day off" today. Park with DS in the morning, fed ducks and he decided he was going to be a duck "Quack quack, me eat the bread" lol. Then swings etc. On our way home I dropped something off at my friends and also gave her a stack of nappies as DS won't use them now. Kept a sealed pack but the open ones will get dusty etc by the time new baby grows into size 5. My friend's toddler is 3 months older but an attempt to potty train just distressed her so not ready yet. Meanwhile DS is refusing to wear a pull up for bed now. He's only had two wet nights in the past month so hopefully he stays dry. And today he insisted on using toilet (stood up like Daddy) instead of potty. Needs to use a stool to reach yet.
Took a drive to big Boots to return a pack of bodysuits given to me at baby shower. Tiny baby size (up to 7.5lb) not likely to get used by us. DS barely fit in newborn at birth. So since we have plenty of clothes I exchanged for Size 1 and 2 nappies ( on 3 for 2).
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.

  • I am planning on having my baby at a midwife led unit, so a birth centre I suppose. I want as little intervention as possible (that's my plan anyway!). I just need to choose between one that is five mins away and one that is 20 mins away (this one has an amazing reputation). I hate hospitals and have only had bad experiences at the main hospital 20 mins away, so fingers crossed I will be ok with the MLU. I live in a rural county so everything is spread out!

All of the midwives have said that they know quite early on if you have to be transferred and so I hope that's the case! Certainly seems to be the experience of my friends that have had babies recently.

I have awful backache at the moment- can't wait for 3 weeks when I don't have to sit at a desk all day!

    Hope everyone is ok :)
