That's a lovely thought :) I'd think along the lines of flowers, chocolate, champagne, maybe a voucher for some spa treatments, massage etc :)

That's a lovely thought and will be much appreciated.

Is she planning to breastfeed? If so, get in some almonds (apparently the selenium in them is good for BFing mums), dried fruit, raisins etc that she can keep in a small bowl near the sofa to snack on.

Hand cream is good as you're constantly washing them!

    Chocolate of course

Any DVDs she might have been wanting to watch

Possibly not in the immediate newborn phase, I think we took the prints about the 7 week-ish point - but a necklace or similar with the baby's handprint on it? I've just had one done for my birthday with both my daughters' prints on and it's fabulous... some of the companies will do the print-taking kit in a gift box so you can wrap that up, then do the prints together and send them off and they'll reduce them down and into a silver pendant (or cufflinks or whatever). You can actually really see the features in the handprint they took on my necklace version when it's been shrunk down.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • Thanks for all the lovely ideas, I will see if I can get a wee hamper together for her, will be hard to work on it without her seeing :)

Any ideas as to what "the baby" can give her? Was thinking of writing a wee poem from the baby to her??

We're expecting our 1st about the same time. Thankfully my wife had pointed out a 'lovely' bracelet in a shop in town. I pretended to take no notice - to the point where I'm not absolutely certain the item I went back and bought was the correct one!

She reminded me of it when her birthday was approaching, so I hope I got the right one!!!

She's pushing something the size of a melon out of her vagina, she deserves a diamond at the very least.

Not very MSE but the traditional gift on the birth of a child is an eternity ring.

But quite frankly I think the personal things you are thinking of worth more than any diamond!

    My ideal present would be:
    - get her a lasting beautiful present like a piece of jewellery that she can keep forever. I would not like anything baby theme, but each to their own, jewellery is very personal.
    - ensure the house was completely cleaned top to bottom for when she came back home from hospital, complete with her favourite flowers and foods in the fridge (if she likes things like pate or proscuitto, she might not have had any for 9 months?)
    - give her a care package/goodie basket in hospital of personal, nice things she could use but that may not be to keep "forever", plenty of good suggestions on this thread like chocolates, a subscription to lovefilm, dvds, toiletries etc etc.

She may like something that is all about her, and showing her that she is still your girlfriend, rather than baby related stuff if you see what I mean.

Edited to say, this may sound demanding, and of course I would be happy regardless of any presents, but this would be my ideal list ( and what I would have tried to do for my husband if he was giving birth..... :)
