??! Is the solicitor also a named executor, and is it a large estate?
I know it's hard to be assertive just after losing someone as close as your Mum, but the process of getting probate / letters of administration [the latter if no Will] really isn't difficult if the value of the estate falls below the inheritance tax threshold.
The solicitor is just after ££ and will definitely hold up the process. Don't be afraid to decline his services; say you'll ask for his advice if you get stuck.. (which you won't, because there's plenty of free help available).
I found the experience quite therapeutic every time I've been an executor; it's the last thing you can do for someone you love, to ensure their wishes are carried out (or to be fair to all their loved ones if there's no Will - following clearly set-out guidelines in case of intestacy).
(((hugs)))

There is a will (all to Dad unless he dies within one month or predeceased), one problem is I am 200 miles away so anything local he really needs to deal with
He has actually quoted a flat fee - so no problem with that!Must use my stash up!0 -
Oh and one thing while we were away, I realised that Mum and Dad had bought deeper mattresses but not got deeper sheets, so I ordered one off isme to try and it came by Yodel, well when I say came by I mean they didn't bother ringing the doorbell just dumped it on the front door step!
I then ordered three more (to give changes) and the same thing happened again! so not a good time there eitherMust use my stash up!0 -
Finding the forum really annoying today, it won't let me type anything it, so any posts have to be done in Libre Office, copied and pasted!:(
Still feel totally crummy, still not wanting food MUST be good for the diet eh? However the fuzzy headedness and so forth is NOT good for crafting. Add into this the stress that Dr Witch may not have a job after Wednesday and things are not looking good in the Witchy household!:eek:Must use my stash up!0 -

The redundancy happened, Dr Wytch has had one interview (three weeks ago) and heard nothing, loads of applications in. I'm in a funk because I can't help at all.
Still I am clearing debts and doing crafting so something is going well!Must use my stash up!0 -
I'll say! It must be so difficult to stay positive and self promote for another job after a redundancy, you're doing your own thing, supporting OH and clearing debts as well. Thats great!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Oh no, so sorry to read that the axe did fall! Fingers crossed Dr Warlock doesn't have to wait too long before a new employer spots his potential..
Sorry too that the pub trip didn't come together - but maybe best we both avoided an unnecessary expense at this point.0 -

Thank you Karmacat, Dr Warlock is at the University this afternoon taking advantage of their career's advice service! The slave traders are crawling out of the woodwork (and seem to think he won't mind a 2 hour commute each way when he has a disabled dependent ..... err NO!), the best one though was a whole raft of jobs in Cambridge ..... MA, USA :rotfl:Oh no, so sorry to read that the axe did fall! Fingers crossed Dr Warlock doesn't have to wait too long before a new employer spots his potential..
