Got to the North West on the 21st August, saw my Mum that night and went to see her again on the Saturday - she died at 5pm with me and my niece with her (Dad had popped home to have a rest as he has leukemia and Dr Warlock had popped to get us a brew!), funeral was on the 2nd and now I have the task of being the main executor of her willMust use my stash up!0

So sorry for your loss KW XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j
Best win so far - holiday to Florida0 -
I'm so sorry to hear that KW...I can't imagine what you're going through.....Just take it one step at a time...We're here when you need us xXx0

So sorry to hear your sad news, KW. (((hugs)))
Hope you can take comfort from knowing your Mum had her family with her, surrounding her with love.
Don't worry about being executor, it's not as difficult as it sounds (were you given the booklet "What to do when someone dies"? That takes you through everything step by step - and we're here to help if needed).0 -
I didn't get that booklet *Robin*, unless it was in the bundle of paperwork left up at Dad's!
The Solicitor is on holiday this week - but next week things should start moving on.Must use my stash up!0 -
Oh KW, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm very glad you managed to get there, at least, but what a stressful situation for you, with your mum passing away and your dad having leukaemia
One step at a time, and looking after yourself, absolutely. I'll be thinking of you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I put this in a separate post so that it doesn't get mixed up with anything else. And if you don't want it on your thread, I can delete it no problem.

The government site - since the funeral has sadly been and gone, I think you've probably done all of this already.

This is the free advice service set up by the government - again, you've done the first set of things.

Another government site, quite far reaching.

^^ That's the on-line version of the booklet I meant, KW.
Am surprised you weren't given a copy; when DH passed on, I got one from our GP when she came to issue his death certificate, another from the Registrar at Castle Hill, and a third from the funeral director (the last two were in folders with other paperwork so I didn't realise they were duplicates until getting home).
Hope you're bearing up ok; am sure Dr Warlock is looking after you and the Cairn boys are doing their best to restore your cheer. (((hugs)))0 -

We did get a large folder of "stuff" from the funeral director - I suspect it was in there! We got the Death Certs and stopped bank accounts in my Mum's name, just a bit miffed with the solicitor, I had 80% of the stuff with the main bank dealt with,I needed to fill out one form and get it back with my Dad's sig on it - so that would have taken two or three days to get sorted, Solicitor stepped in and it will now take two or three months :mad:Must use my stash up!0 -

??! Is the solicitor also a named executor, and is it a large estate?
I know it's hard to be assertive just after losing someone as close as your Mum, but the process of getting probate / letters of administration [the latter if no Will] really isn't difficult if the value of the estate falls below the inheritance tax threshold.
The solicitor is just after ££ and will definitely hold up the process. Don't be afraid to decline his services; say you'll ask for his advice if you get stuck.. (which you won't, because there's plenty of free help available).
I found the experience quite therapeutic every time I've been an executor; it's the last thing you can do for someone you love, to ensure their wishes are carried out (or to be fair to all their loved ones if there's no Will - following clearly set-out guidelines in case of intestacy).
(((hugs)))
