Yes, they are. I have thought about asking the landlord to rent the house only to me as we are on a rolling one month contract but he would not rent it out to a single mum of two who only works part time.
And I do not qualify for LHA either. I tried in the past to rent just by myself but got nowhere. Private landlored did not want to take any risks and estate agents just laughed and said there was no chance.0 -
How many hours do you work part time?
If your OH was unceremoniously kicked out, its worth asking if you would qualify for housing benefit.
If you are eligible for housing benefit, I don't know that requirements for eligibility but someone on here may be able to advise you.
Given that you are on a rolling contract, your landlord, if suitably assured that you can pay the rent, might assist you in kicking out this poor excuse of a man.0 -

If you separate from this excuse, you can make single claims for Working Tax credit, Child tax Credit and LHA. These will not be based mon his income, only yours so you will be entitled toLHA unless you are earning a very high rate per hour. Please check with www.turn2us.org.uk
There will be LLs who take single mothers but you may well be best off moving anyway to get away from him. Speak to Women's Aid ASAP.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I don't really have any useful advice to add that's not already been mentioned LaLa. I just wanted to give you a virtual internet huig and remind you that although the steps you need to take seem HUGE and incredibly hard work it will all be worth it for the welfare of you and your children.
Much Love and stay strong. XxxEveryone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -
Lala, my sister was a single Mum with 2 small children. She worked part-time and qualified for housing benefit and other benefits. You can do checks online for how much you are entitled to through the benefits calculators.
Are you able to escape to stay with relatives? You might feel like you will be a burden on them but if you explain the situation I am sure they would find ways to help you. I know if my sister was in the same situation I would do all I could to get her out of it as unscathed as possible.
There are many LLs that accept single parents with small children, so please do not think they are all the same. Look on gumtree, put requests up for places, if needs be rent a room from someone until you can find somewhere more suitable. Agirlcalledjack (website) moved out of her apartment with her small child into a shared house due to finances. There are ways out of this situation and I'm sure Womans Aid will provide some light to the tunnel.
Spareroom is another one for renting rooms.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

How sad that he is treating your daughter like this, my heart goes out to you.
As others have said, try to find out what you'd be entitled to if you were on your own, I imagine that you would qualify for HB and possibly other benefits. If so, speak to your LL and ask if you could not the house alone.
In the meantime, what about relatives or friends? Same as Kerri, I wouldn't want someone belonging to me to suffer this kind of abuse in silence and I would do everything I could to help them out.
So much 'benefit bashing' goes on these days, but when I read stories like this, I feel very thankful that we have a welfare system.Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A
Never regret something that once made you smile :A0
