Regretting buying car from dealership

    I'm starting to think you are making this up as you go along. A turbo oil seal failure (indicated by white smoke), may allow oil into the exhaust, but wouldn't stop your engine turning over.

    Read up on hydralock on the TDI's then come back.

    Has anyone else noticed the number of threads that phey708 has started, and often duplicates the threads? And they ask advice, and then either ignore all replies, or become abusive towards the people who try to help.

    In my book this just stinks of attention seeking :rotfl:

    Turbos can I believe fail with very little warning. Since you've had the car three weeks it is certainly not obvious to me that the garage was negligent with regards to the condition of the turbo when they sold it to you. Have you driven a car with a turbo before? It is possible that how you have been driving may have contributed to the failure.

    Is the garage charging you to fix the turbo? It is unclear from what you have posted.

    (The brake situation is an entirely different story, and the garage should not in my opinion have sold the car with brakes in the condition that you describe.)

This is how they would know the turbo would be due to fail beforehand however it looks like the car has not been properly service, and also the fact that the engine is no longer working after just 3 weeks would certainly exercise my rights to a repair/refund

    Do you really think that's how we work? Do you really think we plug a computer into the car and it flashes up "turbo will fail in 4 weeks, 3 days and 5 hours.."

    Have you heard of public transport?

    I could do, but I hope i don't! The engine failed to turn over after the recovery chap started the engine and loaded on the truck and a ton loads of white smoke came out the exhaust.

    I don't think its my driving style that could of done this i think, but rather just a spint of bad luck on my part. Fortunatly, the garage is not charging me for the repair and the car is in their court for a week (approx.) for them to arrange the turbo to be repaired.

    The only problem is that I don't think it is just the turbo as well, which could be evident by the engine no longer ticking over. Having read the hydrolock issue with the VW's (oil going back to the cylinder etc.), this has alerted me a bit. I'm hoping that the hydrolock is not the issue but I won't find out until next week :(.

    I agree that the brakes are a different story but it just feels like I have 'tainted' goods with the problems up to now.

    P.S. Are there any mechanics on her who can confirm that I could also need a catalyst as well since all the oil burning could of damanged the existing one?

    How old is the car and what's the mileage? Also is it the GTI?

    Its 2005 GT with engine code BKD. Its had a full service history however after speaking with a mechanic he thinks the turbo being weak on these engines could contribute towards the problem.
    I think you need to find yourself a hobby. Dreaming up stuff is not doing you any good.
