Regretting buying car from dealership

Hello,

I put a post a while back to complain about the grinding sound coming from the Golf and today I inspected the brakes. It turns out that they where metal to metal! I had them inspected by an independent dealership and they also noted how bad the discs where, and if I was to change the pads, they would not last very long!

This was only after 2 weeks ownership, however today, the turbo went on it and now the car fails to start. There was a big cloud of white smoke which looks like all the oil has been burnt. I have since had the car recovered to the dealership but I am very unhappy with the state of the car that I have been given.

I understand that the brakes are wear and tear, but to be given a car for 5k with next to nothing on the pads is unacceptable, and the turbo gone just adds icing to the problem.

What are my rights if I wish to get a full refund rather than a repair on the turbo? Also, it is possible to get a refund for the pads being changed from the dealership? I really feel like rejecting the car and going for a different one.

    How long have you owned the car. Out of Curiosity when you found out as soon as you took delivery that the brakes were grinding, why did you not hot it straight back to the dealer that sold it to you ?

    I doubt you would be able to reject having had the car for two weeks, you would have been deemed to have accepted the car under soga.

    The dealer should repair the damage under soga rules, however if its going to cost £££'s to do then he can refund you. The brakes wouldn't have failed in two weeks so would not be wear and tear, if dealer says that then he has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they were satisfactory when you collected the car, you should have taken the car back then to get them replaced / repaired.

    Google SOGA hub plenty of answers on there on how things should be handled, I used this when a dealer tried it on with me....I won :D

    So should I wait for the turbo repair to be done? I'm just worried that the turbo failure has opened Pandoras Box and I will run in to other problems. They are only looking to rebuild the turbo rather than fit a new one which is my concern.

    why would they fit a new turbo and put you in a better position?

    Just repair it or replace it with a used one.

    Because they cant sell a car with a faulty turbo perhaps? It may be more than the turbo that is wrong as oil has gone through the exhaust and engine and it no longer tirns over!

    First of all, why have you started a new thread on exactly the same subject?

    Secondly, have you actually read the replies in the other thread?

    Did the dealer give you any sort of warranty? Most inde3pendent dealers will give you either one or three months. These don't usually cover wear and tear, but for the brake pads to wear out so soon, then I'm sure they will change them for you. Have you taken it back to them?

    For the turbo to fail you must have been driving the car with worn out pads. You are risking voiding any warranty you might have.

    The turbo has failed after three weeks. So how would they know it was going to fail three weeks after you bought the car?

    I'm starting to think you are making this up as you go along. A turbo oil seal failure (indicated by white smoke), may allow oil into the exhaust, but wouldn't stop your engine turning over.

    Do you actually read what you are typing? This is a differrent issue if you learnt to actually read! They have the car at the moment as it is not turning over, and the brakes would have nothing to do with the turbo wearing out.

    By carrying out correct servicing and running diagnoistics, this would indicate any problems before the turbo would fail. This is how they would know the turbo would be due to fail beforehand however it looks like the car has not been properly service, and also the fact that the engine is no longer working after just 3 weeks would certainly exercise my rights to a repair/refund
