JSA: justifiable reasons to limit hours/days of work sought?

You didn't know you'd have a summer break from university?
I didn't know the budget would go so wrong.
Thought we were OK & budgeted well to cover the summer, but turns out not.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

Really? On a website which advocates budgeting, being prepared & planning ahead; you're criticising me for sparing a thought for what could become a tricky situation?Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Have you actually checked whether your wife (and you in the joint claim) is entitled to JSA?
My understanding is that they will take some of your student loans/grants into account when checking eligibility.
I believe you said that your wife hasn't worked for a while - how long ago did she work? (just checking that she isn't entitled to contribution based JSA)
I am not sure why your wife just can't look for a job herself without going through the palaver of signing on (if you both are entitled that is)
That way she could find hours that suit and fit in with the baby's routine. Have you tried that?0 -

Perhaps you should stop spending money improving your landlord's house and buying expensive gadgets (ipads and iphones). You'd have a bit more cash and wouldn't need so much in benefits/to work the system then.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Actually I was saying you are worrying too much, I can't see her getting work next week that isn't conjusive with feeding. I know why you are asking, but if she goes on there saying things like I need to feed, you could end up with JSA stopped as they could assume she isn't seeking work.
Go with the flow, if the worst happens then seek advice, but worrying about something that isn't realistically happening now is using up energy best spent elsewhere.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
