JSA: justifiable reasons to limit hours/days of work sought?

Hi, my wife will be claiming JSA from the end of the month; I'm a student so I can't - she has to claim on behalf of us both, which means she is the one who they want to see looking for work (even though I will be too).
We have three kids, one is 9 months and still part breast-fed - but apparently this isn't reason enough for her to limit the hours she's looking for in any way (not even to limit to daytime hours, apparently).
Just wondering if anyone knows what they do allow as justifications to limit sought hours these days?

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Why is she claiming JSA at all? You should be getting 3 x child benefit £47.40/week and Children's tax credit £8915/year - so are you? Student income is disregarded for tax credit purposes.0

Slightly less on the TC; some SF is taken into account.
She's claiming simply because we will need to income to get by. Hopefully next summer we'll have budgeted better and won't need it.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
So is she looking for work?
No she cannot restirict her hours, if she was working prior to the pregnanacy her maternity allowance would have ended by now so she would be back at work.
There are more part time jobs out there than full time so she sho will have more chances fo finding some work or you can look for work around your studies?0 -
This is just during the summer, not term time so has nothing to do with my studies.
Jobcentre are saying she has to be looking for FT, so just applying for PT probably won't cut it.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
during the summertime, you arent studying.
so she has no reason not to look for full time work.
she can express and leave for you.0 -

She can't express sufficient milk, we have tried frequently. Pumping as much as possible from both isn't enough for one feed; if she works FT we'd need 2.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
if she isnt producing sufficient mile, then the baby obviously isnt dependant on it.
my daughter had a baby in october, and her baby is breast fed.
my daughter is back at work full time ( not through choice) and the baby ius eating through the day and being breast fed at night.

She produces plenty; just can't express it. It just stops after only a little (and is extremely painful); but the baby gets much more.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

it is your choice.
as a couple, it is only reasonable that one of you is seeking full time work.0 -

What choice? She can't decide how much comes out?!
I pointed out, I will be looking for any work. But JC couldn't give two figs about that. Hence my original question.
Hopefully we'll find suitable work fast; but if not I need to know how the bills are getting paid.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0
