Smokey kitten was limping this morning, so trip to the vets - he's fractured the end of his "toe" and it needs amputating  He's 6 months old so he's getting neutered at the same time.

Just don't ask how much it's going to cost.............. but I need a lie down to recover!

Got a bit to catch up on methinks...

Shelly - hope your back is feeling better.

JCS1 - your blackwork angel is stunning!! I wouldn't mind giving that a go myself, but all the metallic thread puts me off, tho' it may be worth the effort as it really is beautiful. Little Sew and Sew is very cute. Poor Smokey kitten!!! Never heard of a cat toe amputation before!

mrs-moneypenny - your tulips are lovely and I'm sure that your mum will love the cushion, such a lovely idea to make it out of the dress. Sorry to hear about the funeral. Hope you and your husband are doing ok.

nmm - great progress, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished item, you're so close! Ogeechee bear is cute.

sweetcarer - your sampler is lovely. I'm loving all the shades of purple.

Ailsb - hope the chest infection is improving. I've been very tempted by Henry and his wives, managed to resist so far. It is a lovely kit. You made a lovely job of it and I'm so glad your dad loved it. House warming gift is lovely, I hope they liked it.

Hippipal - great price for the bobbins. Sampler is looking good. It will be lovely when finished.

Ruth-honey - your crochet is lovely. I'm a crocheter too. I love how quickly it works up. I'm currently working on 2 blankets (hence why my xstitching progress is slow lol).

fos - thanks for the tip on using a saucer for beads, I'm about to start putting the beads on my GW sampler so will give it a try. Coasters are lovely, such a nice way to keep items people have stitched for you.

Coxy11 - hope your interview went well! That would be a dream place for me to work, but think, prob like everyone else here, I would spend more than I was earning lol. Stockings are looking good.

Mrs_T_M - your bathroom sign would probably be a bestseller lol.

Flat Eric - I don't know if crochet is easier than knitting (I do both) but wouldn't say it was any harder. Progress is much quicker with crocheting imo. I much prefer crocheting over knitting. I see other people have answered your questions about type of yarn, etc and I agree with their thoughts. I also agree that amigurumi may be a bit fiddly to start with. It is also a bit different from traditional crochet in that your rounds don't have an end, you are just crocheting in a spiral.

kezbabybabe - glad your mum is on the mend now. Your knitting is fab! I'm a knitter and I'm still trying to work out how this is done lol.

Whew! Didn't realise I had so much to catch up on!

As usual I haven't made much progress on my stitching but I've got a quiet weekend so I'm hoping to get a lot done then. My problem is I have too many craft projects on the go - 2 crochet blankets, 3 cross stitches, 3 cards need to be made this weekend. After the cards are done, I am going to concentrate on one project at a time!

I have some birthday money to spend on a kit but just can't find anything that 'grabs me'. I'll just hold on to it until I do find the 'right one' as I don't need anything new to work on just now lol.

Does anyone know of any 3 for £3 offers on xstitch mags at moment? I already subscribe to WOCS but fancy trying another one too.

    Hi all

Have been catching up on all the posts. Don't know where this month has gone.

Loving all the beautiful stitching and I have just caught up on about 15 pages so too many to mention individually. They are stunning and lovely to see the crochet and knitting too.

I have managed to stitch 2 x mother's day cards and a notelet thing for mil which was given free with a mag. Managed to take photos of one card and the booklet thing but forgot about my mum's as I was in a rush to give it to her before she went on holiday. I will try and post pics later.

Am currently doing some small cards, for general purpose use, to try and use up the last of the ceramic pots that I bought years ago as part of the stashbusting challenge. I was keeping them for 'good' but not sure what that actually is when it comes to cross stitch so decided to make them and give them to people which is far more useful.

Anyway onwards and upwards better get ready for work I suppose. Looking forward to the Easter hols when I plan to have some quality me time and catch up on lots of reading and cross stitch stuff I don't get time for during term time.
  • Hi

Beg, i'm the same I can't seem to work out how much wool I need for a project. Please give crochet another go, I was/am a total novice and I use youtube videos to learn, they are very good. Most things are stitched with Double Crochet (UK Triple) personally I think the US terms make more sense SC is one loop on hook, DC is two and TC is three. Plus its how many times you pull the wool through, the fun starts with Half DC etc :rotfl:

Oops :o sorry for the crochet hijack, BD is moving along really quickly as its big sections of the same colour. Also a quick question for people with bobbin storage boxes, when you cut off a length of floss do you put the used part back on the bobbin or make a separate one with the leftovers?

I think I'm going to pass on the crocheting (for now at least) as I seem to have really missed cross stitching whilst I had my little break.

I bought some wool and things to give felting a go last year and it is still untouched :o. Has anyone tried this in the past?

    Evening all,

Thanks for your kind concern, think long bath and early night might be calling me.

Next project decided, after the muted colours of the birth sampler and then blackwork, gone for colour:

Looks really cute. I don't usually like cats (sorry to all the cat lovers in the Cafe) unless they are of the cartoon variety.

    Hope you are feeling better.

    Hi everyone,

fos - the coasters look great - reminds me that I bought 10 square coasters from ebay and haven't done anything with them yet..... Love the wedding sampler.

Ailsb - the framed pieces are great, would love to see your other previous makes.

JCS1 - sorry to hear about your cat and that you've been feeling down. The Blackwork Angel is amazing and I love the little cat design you're doing next. Hope things improve for you.

    nmm - BD looking great.

mrs m-p - sorry to hear about your DHs friend ((hugs))

Mrs_T_M - sorry I don't have that issue of Cross Stitcher.

Ayeshalush - love the cut thru stable, and a good price too!

Maisie M - nice mothers day card and I have that notebook somewhere. Dragonflies are my 'thing' so I must get to it sometime!

fos/Caroline1973 - thank you for the subscription offers. I have taken up another 5 for £5 Cross Stitch Crazy :D

Well I had my interview this afternoon at Hobbycraft. There were 10 of us, and we were split into two groups. One group had to go onto the shopfloor and tidy an area and approach customers to offer help, whilst the other group had to make up a kit for a mothers day craft that children could do. We made a photoframe from some foam sheets and embellished it with glittery stickers and pipe cleaners. Then we swopped around. At 3pm there were no customers in the store so the interviewer got other members of staff to approach us pretending to be customers. I was asked for a gift for a 4 year old boy who likes colouring, so I picked up a kit with masks that you colour in and got barked at for picking that rather than aqua doodle etc. Made me and the staff member feel really uncomfortable. Then we each had a 1-1 with an area manager who has been sent to 'sort out the store' so I figure that the staff there might be feeling a bit picked on. Noticed lots of empty cartons on shelves which hadn't been replenished (I worked for Boots over Christmas and there's no way that would've happened). Anyway I will hear by email by Wednesday latest but tbh I'm not sure I'm that bothered!

Sorry to hijack the thread :o

Hoping to do some more of the stockings this evening.
