  • Thanks for your comments - I did a bit of stitching on it yesterday evening and discovered another challenge - my friend makes her xs the opposite way to me:

i stitch //// and then \\\\. She stitches \\\\ and then //// - don't know if it because she is left handed. I know there isn't a right or wrong way, just that all stitches should be stitched the same way.

Anyway as I am a huge Strictly fan I want to finish it even though it will probably take much longer than I first thought

That is the way I stitch as I am left handed so \\\\\ then ///// confuses my DD hugely! :rotfl:

No stitching for me today, DD came home yesterday afternoon and I have gone down with a stinking cold and sore throat, I think my nose has turned into a tap! :o. DD is recovering well and has been and had a shower this afternoon so says she feels better now. She has been told the stitches need to be removed on Friday but I am feeling a little nervous about this as it feels 'too soon' and I once had a mole removed from the top of my foot and when they removed the stitches, it sprung back open and has left a big scar, defo don't want DD to end up with any unnecessary scaring

Going to try a bit of stitching a little later but my brain feels even more fuzzled than it normally does!

FOS - your dancers are lovely. I agree with the others you "need" to finish it and also agree that full stitches are needed. I had to do similar a piece my Mum started and I finished.

pm2326 - sorry to hear about your Dad. Welcome back by the way.

MOS - glad your daughter is feeling a bit better, a shower/bath always makes you feel better doesn't it?

Louise - your A Baby, A Manger design is really nice. You'll have it finished in no time at all.

Coxy - good luck with the designs for the Guides. I tried it with the Cubs once but they struggled and I ended up being really stressed as they didn't keep the crosses going in the same direction. I have a touch of OCD and not having the stitches lying the same way didn't sit well with me. I had to keep telling myself that they were only little (8 to 10.5 year olds).

Re the Noel and Snowman design from the front cover of WOXS, I would have put money on these being in this months Cross Stitch Crazy - lol.

nmm - your BD update is coming along nicely. The erasable pens are the correct ones. I've been using these for about a year now and they are really good.

I'm not sure of I should be commenting in here now about something in WOXS but here goes. It's not a review so I assume it's okay. I really like the 12 Days Christmas Tree and might have a go at doing it on some sparkly fabric I have (as recommended by Louise).

Also, I'd like some opinions if I may. My son will be 15 after Christmas and unbelievably still likes me to do cross stitch for him. He is into science, doing triple science at GCSE, and also loves the Big Bang Theory. That's the background. In WOXS a Periodic Table design was shown http://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/62422267/periodic-table-of-the-elements-counted?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product_listing_promoted_en_gb&utm_campaign=geekery_low , I followed this link and I've found a Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spoke design http://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/62459926/rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock-counted?ref=listing-shop-header-1

Now the question - which should I stitch for him? I think I'm leaning towards the Rock, Paper, Stone etc. as this seems to have a lot less backstitching. Any comments gratefully received.

Oh how I love the internet! I saw activity from here in my Etsy stats and tracked it down to you all.

I'm the designer of the two patterns in question. Both of the patterns have a bit of backstitching. The periodic table has A LOT of backstitching. The Rock, Paper, Scissors one has it in the words. If you are looking for ease and speed, I'd say go with Rock, Paper, Scissors. But periodic is timeless, so....

I searched on ebay brown card blanks and quite a few came up, hopefully one will be like what you're looking for. Not so much choice for aperture ones :(

Thanks for that nmm. I'm might be going with friend to large shopping centre sometime during the week so I will see if I can pick any up then if not I'm sure there will be something suitable among the ones you found. Will have to check to see what size I need before I go any further. Thanks again.

    Hi

I am cross stitching a card and the lettering is a very small back stitched alphabet and I am unsure how to start and finish my threads as I don't want to trail them from one letter to the next.

Any help or advice would be appreciated as I am a newcomer to cross stitch embroidery.

Welcome to the Cafe onewom :hello:

Your poor DD  Glad she is on the mend though, what a worry :(

Okay, maybe not that good...I started another new project :o I haven't felt in the mood for working on large pieces for months now (plus side is my improved ready made card stash) but I got a chart called A Baby, A Manger which is a vintage style with only two colours so I don't need too much concentration. And it's Christmassy :j

You've done it again Louise - added to my 'would like to stitch one day' pile. :D A Baby, A Manager is lovely. Have refrained from ordering it .............. yet :D

Love your new chart and also the website you linked to - it was new to me and I ended up spending an hour last night looking at various charts and pinning them onto my board on Pinterest. Not what I had planned to do but very enjoyable :)

    *Sorry :o / You're welcome :)

    * Delete as appropriate cos I'm not sure which one I should be saying :rotfl::rotfl:

I never thought twice about commenting on mags in this thread - it's just the reviews I do on the other unless a natural convo starts up, but this place would be my first port of call. Are you still doing the gold backstitch if you tackle the tree?

Re. the stitching for your son - I am so jealous you have someone 'sciencey' (if that isn't a word then it is now!) to stitch for!!:T

Putting aside the fact that I want to stitch it which makes it my favourite anyway,:D that is probably still the one I would choose in your position. It covers the science side, and the backstitch wouldn't really take all that long to stitch up, especially if you did it as you went along. I think what would make it easier is the fact you wouldn't need to follow the chart too much for backstitch, since a lot of it is blocks of stitching and you can just edge them.

    (Sorry...) :D

It will cost loads on postage from America (mine was from 123stitch). You can have mine when I'm done, I will post it on.

I'm stitching mine on DMC cream stardust aida, it's coming along well. Hoping to have it finished in a couple of weeks :)

  • fos - brilliant idea to finish the dancers and have it framed for her for Christmas.

mos - so pleased to hear DD is on the mend. She will have to take things easy for a little while.

nmm - nice BD update :T

Ailsb - I think I would maybe opt for the periodic table as it will be decoratiive and will also be used for reference with his studies. At the weekend my friend showed me a sampler her grandaughter received and it was the times table - something along the lines of these. Numbers only not the alphabet on hers.

My wine cushion and card were very well received by my friend yesterday. I also managed to get a hair voucher for her via livingsocial (like Groupon). Had some earrings on standby but they have gone off to Santa for her now. We had a lovely lunch (could quite get into the 'ladies who lunch' idea) :D.

No stitching for two days

    Take care everyone
