    Afternoon everyone,

Ive been stitching away this morning, A friend has just got back from Vietnam and has brought me back a huge and a mean huge cross stitch. Its beautiful but the shear size has but me off a little but after my ongoing project I shall give it a bash.

Its the first day on the market tomorrow and Im really scared. I do suffer with anxiety as some of you may know if you read my blog so Im hoping I can hold it together.

I shall let you know tomorrow how its goes
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

  • I also start stitching in the centre of the fabric whether it has come from a kit or not, unless it is a band sampler where I will normally start at the top.
As I also do patchwork and quilting I am very mindful of the adage "Measure twice, cut once" so I check everything - I work out the design size from the stitch count and if I am cutting the fabric myself I check and check and check.
One useful piece of advice I was given was to leave stitching borders until the end so that if you have made a mistake counting your motifs you can compensate in the border - this is easier than stitching the border and having to adjust what goes inside.

sweetcarer I love doing other counted stitches and one of my WIPS (probably more of a UFO at the moment) is 26 Stitches by The Drawn Thread linky to what it will look like finally
As you can see I haven't made much progress

I've heard of most of the stitches on your list but Jessica stitch was a new one . Do you get good instructions for each new stitch? I will enjoy seeing your updates and perhaps they will spur me on to working on 26 ......

  • This site The Victoria Sampler has some stitch animations for various counted thread stitches which I find helpful when learning a new stitch. No Jessica stitch though.
  • sweetcarer - thanks for sharing all the stitches with us. Is this something that you subscribe to with the designer? How big will the finished piece be?

winnie - good luck for tomorrow. Will you be indoors or outdoors? What a lovely present from your friend. What is the design of?

fos - love the colours of your sampler. Have noted The Victorian Sampler site for future ref - oh to have more free time :D

Took a couple of photos of Wine cushion earlier. Just having a cuppa then I will sort and post them.

  • Here are a couple of pics of the Wine cushion.

I fell in love with these porcelain buttons when we were in Berwick last week. :D

Have bought the birthday card to accompany the cushion - it has a bottle of pinot grigio on it (in keeping with the theme). It does have a blank space on it which I am toying with the idea of a adding a '60' - I have some green irridescent aida which would tone in with some sparkly stones that are already on the card. Will have a little play around with it first and then I might post a pic to see what you think and whether or not it works.

    Take care everyone

Great updates, I particularly like the wine cushion, the 12 days and the birth sampler. I have major stash envy, my thread box is about 1/4 full but its a start :rotfl:

Managed to stitch more on BD, I think i'll be finished this page soon, its coming together quickly.
