Yeah I suppose I should check first. It would be so frustrating to end up running out of fabric. I've read 'grid' before in cross stitching but what is it? Is it actually marking the fabric where the pattern will lie?

Yes. You can buy it premarked, but I usually use a water soluble pen to grid mine in10x10 squares to match the chart. It's amazing how much easier it makes a chart to follow, counting is simpler and it is so much faster....handy if you have a long list of projects waiting to be done :o:o:o

If you've got 28 count Evenweave and you want it to come out looking like 14 count Aida (or 32/16 or whatever) then it's one stitch over 2 threads.

So come up through the usual hole, then count across 2 threads and up 2 threads to find the hole to go down.

Each stitch will have a "hole" on each side of it, (between the ends of the cross) if you see what I mean.

It's 25 count even weave. Thank you so much, I had brain fuzz yesterday and couldn't remember :o

Question for all u lovely stitchers...

Does everyone start their stitching from the middle of the chart? I've done two pieces so far and I start from left hand side and work across. Is it a personal thing to start from the centre or is that the proper way it's meant to be?

I am another one who starts from the middle unless I grid the fabric as I am so paranoid I will spend hours on a project and it not have enough fabric to finish.

one of the things that never occurred to me is running out of fabric! I've just assumed it will be enough as it came with the kit. deffo gonna be keeping an eye on this as I will cry for days if that happened to me.

Thanks for advice. that might be my next investment then; water soluble pen. I can see how that would make stitching 10x10 blocks easier. Just waiting on a piece of aida I ordered yesterday, and I can get started on my next one

    Morning everyone,
I always start in the middle,I usually grid it out if the chart is complicated, but if it is a small or simple chart I don't bother.
The thought of doing a big project ,putting in sometimes a years work, then running out of fabric gives me nightmares.
I can get abit paranoid before I start a big project, measuring
,then remeasuring, just so I know I've got it right.
Never thought about a water solvent pen, that seems a quicker way, will have to give it a try!
    Happy stitching x

    Hello Girls,

On for a wee time during my lunch at work - now that I can't stitch at work I can check up on you all.

I usually start in centre - paranoid at not having enough fabric - usually ends up I have plenty. Have done with this with season samplers I am doing. But with the learning sampler I had to start in the top left - the designer has not released the middle part yet. I have worked out what size the top should be and started about 2-3 inches in and down. So I should have enough.

Will be learning alot of different stiches in the learning sampler (and I felt like I needed a challenge and wanted to learn more) - that is why I choose and evenweave (36hpi). Here is the plan for the coming months.
    • September 2013: Satin Stitch border – you can do it all or just a bit each month as you work your way down.
    • October 2013: Cross stitch only (the designer issued September and October together).
    • November 2013: Smyrna crosses, Rice Stitches, Upright cross stitches
    • December 2013: Cross stitch, two different sizes of eyelets
    • January 2014: Variations of Smyrna crosses, Double Leviathan
    • February 2014: Cross stitch only
    • March 2014: Various shapes and sizes of Rhodes stitches
    • April 2014: Cross stitch, Rhodes stitches, Rice stitches
    • May 2014: Algerian Eyes, Double Herringbone, Lattice
    • June 2014: Cross stitch only
    • July 2014: Queen stitch, Norwich stitch, Cushion stitch
    • August 2014: Cross stitch, Rhodes stitch, Ray stitch
    • September 2014: Jessica Stitch, Wave stitch, Rhodes Stitch, Mosaic Stitch, Satin stitch
    • October 2014: Cross stitch only
    • November 2014: Crown stitch, Satin stitch, Rice stitch, Cushion stitch
    • December 2014: Cross stitch, Eyelets
    • January 2015: Four sided stitch, Ray stitch, Satin Stitch, Smyrna cross
    • February 2015: Cross stitch only
    • March 2015: Frame, relax and admire :)
The cross stitch only are the letters themselves. The designers also notes -
NONE of these stitches are particularly difficult once you get the hang of them, even the queen stitches and the french knots (there are only a few of these though, and if you really hate them you can just leave them out).

Well better get on with some work - keep well, till next time.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)
