  • Afternoon all,

I'm afraid my best advice for keeping clutter at bay is to move regularly--at least each year. Even so, I still have about three boxes that I still haven't gone through in two moves. It was five, so I'm making progress! OH has several boxes of his extensive CD collection from his teenaged years. He claims many of them are in no state to sell but seems disinclined to do anything about it. Princess, the drawers might help for small bits, or perhaps small jars. If things can be sorted and accessible they might actually get used. You could even put a date on each one in wipe off marker. Any time you get something out, put that date on. Once a year look through and anything that hasn't been opened can go! Or, perhaps tell your OH he can't store anything that could be replaced for under £10 unless it is for a specific purpose (i.e. he can keep basic items for small repairs).

Onthecatbus--I'm sure we can help with recipes. In the mean time, there is a recipe site that might prove inspirational:
    http://apps.warnerbros.com/thehobbit/recipes/us/

Its quite commercial-looking, but if there is anything you want us to old stylize for you and come up with a cheap alternative that stays in spirit let us know! I also suspect that Mrs. LW could come up with some weird and wonderful ye-olde sounding recipes that wouldn't be out of place, she has a formidable cookbook collection.

Ginny, I hope your OH is sorted!

Alfsmum, I realized I forgot to thank you for your mention yesterday. Have a nice birthday celebration with your daughter.

I'm afraid I had only a minimally productive morning. Never mind, back to it this afternoon.
  • Possession beat me to it! Great minds, eh? :)

Was thinking of putting a bag over Oh's head when we went to the dentist but figured most small children would be in school so he didnt scare too many people :rotfl: dentist was fab, maxi dose of anti biotics. Went to nearest chemist while he sulked in the car - he has a point its bl**dy unfair getting this on top of everything else :o Chemist said 1 hour wait for script so legged it over to Mr T dropped script in a puddle and had to waft it dry -ish. begged chemist for quick service as was worried silly and he fell for my charms despite me looking like I had been fighting a hedge. OH now dosed up and shipped back to bed.

I am seriously befuddled with life at present and cannot get my head in order. Sent dd's OH on a wild goose chase last night which impressed him no end. He was picking Dd up and I forgot the directions, name of the road and gave him completely wrong street on a huge council estate with lots of cul-de-sacs and inaccessible roads :o

Think I may have a long bath and try and de-stress for a while.

ONTHECATBUS you might find some likely recipes in NANNY OG'S COOK BOOK, I don't have a copy but you might be able to get it ordered in to your local library? If it's middle earth and hobbity it will have to include mushrooms I feel, Lyn xxx.

I've just put in a google search for hobbit recipes and there are many sites actually providing real recipes for food that hobbits like to eat, might help, Lyn x.

DD1 has a copy of nanny ogg and it has recipes for, dwarf drop scones, dwarf bread, dwarf cake, figgin, Mrs WHITLOW'S ARTERY HARDENING HOGSWATCH PIE for feeding to wizards, if that's the sort of thing you might do.

Welcome to our new posters :) please stay, we love new faces ;)

Sort and sweet as I'm short for time today but have to say:

Well done my ladies for leaving me a clue and a scold for you lot for never not mentioning bread in the fridge before ;):p:)

I've caught up with the thread so know all your news but really can't reply today... wish I could patch work and Pooky, We've seen your house pics - your home alteady looks like that :) a creative homely space.

Er, OS wise - toad in the hole about to be started and I have to research pulled pork for the SC tomorrow. Housework on top of, me time not too on top of but I'm nowhere near the state I was in while at the nursery. I have a new client. She's 35. We've hit it off brilliantly and she has the 2 most adorable rescue dogs that are as mental as Alfie was! She can relax because I'm not afraid of crazy pooches. Poor thing had been worried about her care because of them. Not I said the plump Northerner!

Have a good evening everyone. Hopefully catch up the morra ;):)

    Hi,

The sun came out today! The Rev and I both felt a bit better so thought we would go to our local metropolis.

We sallied forth to get in the car. Now we have a very narrow passageway between the house and the wall of the church with a garage at the end of it. At the road end we have a dropped kerb and double yellow lines, this morning we also had a car parked across the dropped kerb and yellow lines completely blocking us in. The traffic warden put a penalty notice on it. The police said that if it was still there tomorrow they would come and remove it! The Rev went back and put her dog collar on to patrol the car until the hapless owners re-appeared (that dog collar is frightening - I can recommend it as a way of getting immediate attention). We went up and down the road searching everywhere the car owners might be. Doctor, Dentist, Solicitor, Church - all yielded nothing. An hour and a half later they returned. They had been shopping. "Sorry," they chorused merrily as they jumped into the car, tossed the penalty notice into the back seat and drove off.

I don't very often see the Rev lost for words but she did a passable imitation of a goldfish.

Didn't buy much on our trip to the town. Looked in £land and there were queues stretching the length of the shop so didn't bother going in.

My DS1 phoned to say wearily, "You were right again Mother." Of course, and one day he will actually get it and do what I tell him! His wife, the one who became pregnant by another man, is trying to stitch him up with her debts. I've been telling him for ages to get a separation legally and start filing for divorce but would he listen? Anyway it has at last galvanised him into action and he has consulted a solicitor and got the divorce papers going. (Breathes a sigh of relief.) He has admitted that at last he is thinking with his head and not his heart. I long for the day when I don't have to worry about my children, but I guess that is never going to happen.

Have I bored you long enough?

    Probably.

  • Monna, you know as well as I do we never stop worrying about our children. When they are young we can usually make everything "better"as they become older their problems become more difficult to solve and as we know they don't always listen either.

As long as they know we love them and we are here if they want to talk I think that is as much as we can do.

I would have loved to have seen the Rev's face, speechless.

I cant handle clutter at all, absolutely detest it, my kitchen look as if no one live there , only 2 things on my work tops , thats one kettle and one toaster, nothing at all on the window sills either , so easy to to keep clean that way..........
My other rooms are much the same , at least when you dont have clutter you dont lose things, plus things keep cleaner.............

Hello newbies nice to have you on board...............

Had my first 27 hours with out caffeine , wow and what a dam headaches have I had since lunch time, I use to drink around 8 mugs tea a day plus 3 cans diet coke, so no wonder ive got a headache, good god Im not allowed to drink, smoke, eat sugar , and now me good ole diet coke as had to go, oh well im alive thats the main thing, if my health will be better for it then so be it....................Sheila
  • Hello everyone

Firstly, thank you Fairy Princess for asking after me...........this means a lot, especially at the moment. In addition to all the weight loss (I vaguely remember Christmas as a time when it would equal weight gain, not loss!), I've now got a terrible infection around the feeding tube. I've been receiving treatment for it but now the hospital say the tube has to be pulled. This means more surgery, then six weeks without a feeding tube to allow the infection to clear then more surgery to place a new tube. God knows how I'll manage my weight without the tube!! I have two consultations next week to discuss things - one locally and one at Chelmsford, which means a 350 mile round trip for a ten minute appointment. So I confess to having had a few "down" days (woe is me and all that!) - this is very unlike me as I usually just get on with things (I think this harks back to the days when I was alone with my daughter and had little choice!). But I've had a few down days so you asking after me meant a lot!! Thank you for thinking of me. Normal service has now been returned.

Sheila, I had to give up caffeine too a while ago and also suffered from terrible headaches - in the end, I weaned myself off gradually - I went one caffeine tea, one decaff, and so on until I was eventually off them. May not be an option for you but rest assured I do sympathise!!

Mrs Chip, I've done several silver jewellery courses over the years and have done my City and Guilds Level 1 in it - don't worry about not knowing what "style" or "thing" you want to achieve - you'll find this comes about as you learn. I was very surprised how my personal style developed as the course progressed. Enjoy it though - it's great fun!!

Am still trying to declutter - I have two main resolutions this year - one is to finish the crochet blanket I've started and the second is to get rid of all the junk I've accumulated over the years. I am VERY bad at keeping things with any kind of emotional attachment - yesterday I found at the back of a cupboard an old margarine tub full of used birthday cake candles together with the little cake toys that must have been on all my daughter's cakes when she was little - WHY???? So I'm being ruthless this year. I'm also only doing one drawer, one cupboard or one small space a day so that I don't get put off the task. By this time next year this will be a clutter-free zone!!!

To everyone else, I hope things are all well - at least it hasn't rained ALL day today!!!

    Love to everyone,
    Debbie xxx
