I think I may be turning into a female Victor Meldrew :o I have thought so for sometime but have just had a 'I dont bl**dy believe it' moment. Well two actually. Hubby was rolling around the house last night with toothache, totally at the end of his very short tether. I administered bonjel, pain killers and ibuprofen at timed intervals until he fell asleep. I checked on him in the night and this morning twice then begged an appointment at the dentist and got one. What I failed to notice even after he got up for a brew was the side of his mouth is swollen to twice its size - how could I not notice ??? Some carer I am :D

Second moment, went on local sale or swop to look for a cd player for myself then I saw this ' Does anyone know where I can get a 50" tv on credit no questions asked" and every reply knew where to get one

Oh well best go and tend to Oh and his mouth issues - I can joke cos the pain has gone off sufficiently for him to go to the dentist but I know of the horrors to come.

PX87 and Mar how about something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Multi-Drawer-Cabinet-Interlocking-made-from-Durable-Plastic-/251383555309?pt=UK_Storage&hash=item3a87a0a4ed for keeping all the odds and ends and useful bits in.

My late DH had a larger one of these, only a cheap one. I kept it after getting rid of a lot of his tools etc . Its surprising how many of the bits DS and I have used after looking in there first before going to shops.

princessx87 having spent ten years renovating/restoring our last home, we kept every bent nail and woodwormy lath 'just in case', together with enough ends of building materials and tools to open a yard of our own.... of course there was the fear of 'but what if I need it in the next house' etc when it came to move, but once my OH got his head around the fact that we could only take what we could store in one large chest of drawers while we were looking for our next home it brought everything into focus. There seems to be a thriving market for old tools in the car boot sector if your OH is so inclined, and unrepairable ones might be worth a few bob as scrap. There is always somebody on the lookout for offcuts for kindling, and we were glad to be able to help a friend tile her new kitchen with our leftovers.... There will probably be a few regrets when we get settled again, but in the meantime the bit of breathing space is worth it, and we have often found that karma smiles on us in time of need....

Also, I found that a lot of the items I was dithering over were given to me by other people, and had emotional baggage attached to them that wasn't necessarily mine - it had simply been offloaded onto me to appease their conscience. Realising that gave me the power to decide what was important to me, and released me from having to keep stuff in fear of what other people might think/say. Hope this helps.

Alfsmum have you tried looking on the BBC Good Food website - they put the recipes on there about 2 months after they have been in the magazine and you can either print them or download them. I think they have a print friendly version option though that could be Delicious Magazine which also has a really good website. Saves all that copying
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    Morning All

Ginny - We have those moments many times a day, along with Simpsons Doh! moments! Hope OH is fixed with minimum trauma!

Pooky - very good luck, I'm sure you will do well. Glad DDs like their jewellery!

Mar/Bigjenny - I have one of those - I keep beads in it. I doubt it would be helpful to the RV, a you do need to put thing in it, and put the little drawers back when you have had them out :o.

I start a course on Friday, with a local lady who makes silver jewellery, one day a week for five weeks. I am so looking forward to it, but cannot get my head together enough to settle on what sort of work I want to make, there are so many different styles thatI like, my head is in magpie mode.

Also I have my first volunteer driving job tomorrow, a fairly long journey with an early start, so having a bit of a wibble about that!

Decluttering is always a problem, I just had to shut my mind and chuck stuff when we moved, but even so we have boxes and boxes of 'stuff' stored next door, with no realistic space to keep it out. So will have to steel myself and go through them with a very critical eye. We have damp problems, so they boxes are all starting to go musty, and things in plastic storage are fairing no better, so maybe would not work in your loft Px.

Mrs OG has been away up North to a family funeral and travelled back yeaterday by train. Due to flooding there was a section of the journey replace by a bus, but did the company allow for the extra time for the bus journey so that they got their connecting train? No. So everyone was left at Carmarthen station to wait another one and a half hours for a train (this at seven in the evening), families with children etc, being told 'and we can't take you direct to your destination, you will have to get off at X (which is an unmanned rural station in the middle of nowhere), and wait for an unspecifed time for another train to get you to Fishguard. What terrible service!!! She shared a taxi with another traveller which cost £83 to get home, shattered after a 9 hour journey. And they they wonder why people do not use trains . Doh! I don't believe it!!!!

I can see I have something in common with all these hoarders of items which might come in useful! I am fighting it.
Ginny I hope OH can get something done for his mouth, that sounds like agony. :(
Good news - DH got a 2nd interview for the job he went for yesterday.
Bad news - we got a penalty fine for driving in the bus lane in Birmingham so that's £30 down the drain. Explains why I almost never go to Birmingham.

Possession brilliant news well done Mr P! :)

Ginny that sort of swelling can come up in almost minutes, I had similar a few months back and it was literally thirty minutes.

    welcome greeninkpen :)

Mrs C- sounds like you are in full creative mode.

As for sorting and hoarding, I regularly have a clear out and OH sneaks stuff back in - when we moved here I had to hire a skip while OH was at work, fill it and then have it taken away before he came home. He knew I had done it and was very unhappy but couldnt name ten items I had gotten rid of. My rule is I will get rid of stuff and bag it up - if anyone complains/argues about stuff being taken away, then they have to name ten items that are gone if they can do that they get it back. Have never had to give anything back to DS15 or OH yet. DS9 is a different story he can tell exactly what has gone and where it last was. :)
  • Afternoon all :)

Reading your tips on decluttering eagerly, as looking to move house soon and our house is absolutely bursting with things that 'might come in handy one day'!

I've heard of lots of people cutting down on caffeine this month and my friend highly recommends a banana for an energy boost instead of a coffee if you're struggling. I would very much recommend NOT buying red bush decaff tea.. everyone is different but I personally think it smells and tastes like potpouree - yeuck!

Having reviewed the ott spending, i've happily found that it's not as bad as I thought, and I *should* be able to stick to the £120 grocery spending after all :) I will definitely take up the offer of some help coming up with cheap food ideas for the party and will work out what I have later! Also... if anyone has any low cost ideas for a Middle Earth theme I'd be very grateful! We're all dressing up as Dwarves lol!
