  • Merry Christmas!!

Just popping during the quiet breakfast hour. Collie got his new squeaky hedgehog toy (he's the only one awake with me).

So there really is peace on earth in my house right now.

Husband has decided he was the turkey meal at 1630, so I have a few hours before I have to heft Tom into the oven.

It's a relatively warm day here, -2C. My "third" son came for Christmas Eve buffet and brought me the most beautiful cake from the Chinese bakery. All sponge and mousse and fruit. He said he'd be back for snacks later today. He and my oldest are off to BC tomorrow for a week of training with the Army Reserve.

Hope you all enjoyed your day and there is a tone of spuds to peel.

    Merry Christmas everyone :)

I had to cook for 8 today, which is very stressful for me, but it all went well and it nearly all got eaten so I can relax now and have a peaceful evening - well, once my 3 month old granddaughter goes to bed, she's a bit over-stimulated today!

Well we are having a nice peaceful day, everything going to plan, just pressie opening (mostly the kids doing the opening), game playing and sweets eating and our meal was the best yet. I treated myself to a dress in the sale which made me feel more festive. I don't usually dress up when its just us but glad I did today. Boys have been playing with their walkie talkies and other toys and we are settling down to some Christmas shows soon. I still find it a bit strange not being with extended family but at least it is peaceful and stress free. Tomorrow some relatives are phoning and I will be glad when that has happenned and then we can truely relax.

Hope everyone has a peaceful and relaxing evening. Thinking of you all today and sending my thanks for your support, humour, wisdom and friendship, the best kind of gifts.

Sq - I feel a bit strange not having guests, I can't remember the last timeit was just us 4 for christmas but it's been lovely. After breakfast we all showered and put on clean jimjams and got stuck into chocolates and games. Dinner was lovely, very relaxed, I cooked all the meat yesterday so it was just the veg and sides....we've no room for pud! Dishes are done, girls are watching a DVD, DH is snoozing and I've poped some washing on and had a quick tidy round.

My new sofa is a recliner....so it's feet up, glass is full and I'm here for the evening (I might evacuate for Doctor who as I'm not a fan and DD1 will sob through the entire thing)

    Passes the choccies :)

    Evening Toughies!

I hope everyone has had a super day, and is now looking forward to a rest! I sometimes think the days after Christmas are better as there is so much less stress.

Lunch went without too many hitches - can thoroughly recommend goose as a hassle free option if there are not too many to feed - cooked the day before and bunged back in for 40 mins to reheat and crisp up. OH is a goose convert and wants it every year from now on!

All pressies gratefully received, especially the pastel drawing of our dear departed George that I had done by a very talented man who lives in the sheltered housing where we cook. He has caught his personality exactly, we both had a tear this morning.

Merry Christmas evening to all, will raise a glass to the thread this evening, and looking forward to posting again.

Pops - hope you had a lovely day and got home safely.

Mrs C - the drawing sounds lovely, I'd love to see it.

We had goose a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. We all love turkey though so tend to stick to it....this years turkey crown from LidI was fab, very moist and tons of it. (we brought and cooked two so we have plenty of left overs for sarnies/risottos and to go with chips)
