Fuddle, BR is never the easy option and you and me know my the scars we have. The repercussions after take a long time to go, like finding getting a normal bank account hard, certain employers wont take you on, renting a home etc. I too hate having any debts, things like that scare me. OH doesn't worry as much, but maybe my depression is due to the worry, who knows.

OH is a courier, and it amazes him how many people leave a note back in 5mins please wait. Today he has 138 homes to visit - he started at 4am and will be home approx. 730pm if all goes well. Kidcat, fingers crossed they arrive soon, depending on company collections are mainly pm as the van is always full first thing with deliveries.

Pegged the washing out in the garden today, all towels so the very light breeze may dry a few bits. I have peeled the spuds for tea, round here a sack is £3 for the big ones the supermarkets don't want. Got a cauli from aaldii for 49p, ad a redced pack of squasages. They have been misshaped in the freezer!! Just do a yorky pud and that's all sorted.

Kelzou how have things gone today hun? Has the council spoken to you?

    take care x

I'd just like to offer my support to kezlou, it must be very frightening for you.

I'd also like to say that no-one is saying BK is an easy option, but neither is any debt management. I got into debt as a result of ex, landed up in a mess which resulted in having a basic bank account (no card/no overdraft), , dealing with debt collectors/phone calls/letters and then setting up a pay plan which is in place to this day, 6 years later. I have a very bad credit file, will probably never get credit again even if I wanted it, won't be able to buy a place ever, renting of course is a worry but I've been lucky so far. So I chip away at my debts and sometimes wish I'd gone the bankruptcy route. As I said I don't see it as an easy option, far from it, the psychological scars alone are testament to this, but the debt road is a stoney and potholed filled way and has taken it's horrible toll on me, from shame and embarrassment, to outright terror and anxiety. I feel I let myself down, and I know my ex despises me for it as in his mind money is king.

So yes, many scars and "if only's..." and as my mother would have said, "you've made your bed, you must lie on it..."

Byatt, I know exactly how you are feeling. For me, due to the repossession and major shortfall added to getting a car on finance then it being written off by me - insurance was not enough to pay it all off. Then we had unemployment, no money, the bank offered a loan, overdraft and credit cards. I said yes, and then sank further into the dark dark hole of being in way over my head in debt.

The final straw was when the short fall came from the house sale, to sell a house for £8,500 when it was worth nearly 10 times the amount, honestly it happened to us. That was some 16 years ago now. BR was my only option.

On a plus side, im a happy cookie in my little house and I have warmth, food and love. What more could anyone ask for.

Just seen the new advert for kfc for Christmas, haha well funny, listen to the words.

Made OH a vanilla and cherry loaf cake today. My own recipe adapted from a fruit cake one. |Needs to be eaten with a couple of days tho, what a shame.

It's alright everyone. My post was part in response to my over reacting at the thought of others thinking I was in the know at how to deal with debts easily and part to do with the culture of benefits abuse and those who may abuse the fledgling community welfare food stores.

It's my fault, my mind went off on a tangent and mixed the two issues up in one post.

fuddle no need to apologise, tbh I wondered the same too. I want to shop at these places, what concerns me it will some people get their 'friends' to do the shopping at these places to save some money. not sure how you manage stopping the abuse like this.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could go to shops like this, even people who work sometimes need to find a bargain or 2.

I too don't know an awful lot a lot about debt, only don't ignore it. Keep in touch with them, and pay what you can when you can.

Off to make tea, take care x

  • Afternoon Toughies, back Chez Lurcha after a super weekend with DD1 and Pushkin Cat and a wonderful concert in the Cathedral. Love being away but HOME IS BEST!!!!!

FUDDLE and NUTTY you are both people who deserve so much more than mere respect, you have both had such difficult times but you have both transformed your lives by sheer hard work and determination and by doing things correctly. Yes you made your mistakes but you have both worked, scrimped, saved, gone without, made do and now one of you no longer has the Bankrupt yoke around her neck and the other one has only a short time to go before she can lay her yoke aside too. You are women of character, strong women, superb role models and people I am proud to count friends!!!
I understand that the yoke does not fit easily but you have worn it because you had no choice. Choice in this difficult world gives many opportunities to get things wrong. I think that choice can be to do things correctly or to try and find ways round the system. You have made your choices well and are now benifiting from doing so. You are both wise women and I salute you as such, good on you both!!! Lyn xxx.

Byatt I like Lyn's analogy - you wear that yoke too but it's better than a noose is it not?
