    Looking at the ingredients, that doesn't sound anything like haggis. Not sure I'd want to try that lol - but I dare say a lot of people won't want to try the real thing!

    Its nothing like "Real Haggis" LOL

    But I figure that if I showed people how to make their own "real one" with lambs lungs and sheep's stomach I may frighten off all my friends.

    Kind of reminds me a weezl and the pigs head LOL Do you remember that :D

    I had a request from an American lass - and of course they can't get Haggis (or the real ingredients either) across there .... so best I could do was the veggie version.

    I have to report that it made excellent "Haggis Samosa's" at lunchtime - who say's we Scot's can't do fusion food :rotfl:

  • Haggis is available in North America. There is always a butcher within a couple of hundred miles who can make it.

    Failing that you can buy haggis in a can. Meaty or vegetarian.

    I've got two in my pantry awaiting Christmas. It runs around $8 or $9 a can.

    The fresh haggis available locally is to "wet" for my taste and not spicy enough.

    I love haggis, and the discount freezer shops often have it too, but I will be definitely giving the veggie version a go, it looks great. Thanks also, MG, for the tip on cooking a swede in the microwave, I would have never thought of that one myself.
    I do all manner of veg in the micro, often to cut right down on roasting or baking time, but I've always just used swedes mashed or boiled in the conventional manner.

    I've never tried haggis, can't say I'm eager to either.

    Now a big bowl of cockles and whelks with plenty of vinegar and black pepper....delish!

    Got friends coming for a game of cards this evening, I've raided my AF stash of snacky bits, made a few dips (the peanut butter, chilli and mayo one - a mock satay - is gorgeous and I could eat it with a spoon) and chopped an assortment of veg that dips. No outlay, that's my sort of evening.

    Last nights meal for DDs birthday was a pleasant surprise, it was just a chain pub but the food was hot, flavoursome and severed in good time. Theyve not been open long and we've heard nothing but good things. The manageress dealt with our bill and switched it all around to get us the best deal, it came in just under half the price I'd budgeted for. 8 of us ate very well and had several rounds of drinks too.

    Off to London on Thursday to see a comedian with DD1, found a few Christmassy bits to do whilst we are there too, makes the train fare more worth while.

    I have tried it a few times and not really a fan, however I watched some no name TV cook make one and, on serving he split it open poured a glass of whiskey over it and 'flamed' it like a Christmas pudding.

    I might want to taste that one!

    Thank you for the veggie haggis recipes and what a great way of cooking turnip! Ive only ever done,it the hard way. Oh and thank you for explaining how to bake apples. Been trying to figure it how to do it never thought to ask.

    We've been chilling out in pjs all day, in between coughing and napping on the sofa.
    Managed to get all the sicky clothes done! OH has been banging on about food, said,to, him I can't eat, you'll have to make yourself something, hes not happy. But I'm sure he can manage for one day to make sandwiches and noodles for ds2.

    Hopefully all being well going to see the reindeer parade and lights switch on tomorow in, the town centre :)

    Evening toughies :)

    Back from our light switch on a drink in the pub. Half a cider £1.90 ;) such a good atmosphere. I've never took the girls into a pub on a Saturday night let alone a bar but this place allowed children. We mingled amongst our letting agents, their friends and family and other tenants. It was a good night.

    I've got some oven chips in the oven as I type as we fancy chip butties ;)

    Cheated and bought tinned soup for meals tomorrow - spicey sausage and roast veg. Going to make a crusty loaf to dip in and find time tomorrow to find a recipe to make the soup myself.

    Girls bedroom nearly painted. They wished for pink so it was a challenge to find some cheaper paint. Managed in BundQ - essentials range for just over £8 :)

    Washing isn't at all drying on the airers. The house must not be warm enough and with fan heaters we can't drape over radiators. I'm trying the washing line tactic tomorrow to get the thick of it dry but worried we might have to have a tumble dryer. Electric heating is toasty when its warm but we find as soon as you turn it off the rooms cool down very quickly.

    Morning everyone, Lovely to hear you are having a nice time fuddle. I am glad you are managing to mingle too. Looks like you are going to have a good time down south.

    Today OH has decided to take me out for the day, we are going to do some Christmas shopping well the final few bits. He has suggest Milton Keynes for a change as we have never been there. I wonder what it is like?

    Mum is loads better, and DD is finally getting better - she doesn't have to wear her nose strap everyday now. Still has to not go to collage even though she wants too. She has to ask the doctor Friday if she can return next week.

    Good deed number 1 completed this morning, new neighbours are not going to be about for bin bag and recycling day so we said to leave them in our drive and we will put them out.

  • Morning Toughies, it's warmer here this morning but we have low cloud cover so it's grey and dark but the autumn leaves have finally got thier colour and make a lovely show. So does the lurcha who is often seen rolling around in the big plies of leaves where they collect in heaps, he loves it!!!

    FUDDLE it sounds like you had fun last night and I'm glad it was a positive experience for you going into the pub with the girls, it's a nice thing to be able to do on warm summers evenings, specially if the kids can play in the pub garden and you can sit outside. What ingredients do you have for soup? I've got many recipes so if you want some input let me know and I'll hunt you one out.

    NUTTY glad DD is on the mend and also your Mum.

    POOKY glad you had a nice evening out and how lovely that the manageress actually helped you get the best price, magic!!!

    My lovely neighbour has just popped round with a yummy Tiramisu cake, icing and chocolate on top. She loves to cook and had been making a big one to take to her inlaws for lunch today and made us a little one too, she's a lovely girl and they're such nice neighbours we're lucky to have them, all this and cake too!!!!!
