Gailey, I think it was you looking for wellie socks--just a thought--
At Ald! at the moment I think they still have some of the 'heat for your feet' socks. They are very, very warm and last ages. A bit pricey at £3.29/pair, but OH and I just put a thin pair on the inside and wear them for a couple of days.
https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sunday-10th-november/product-detail/ps/p/heat-for-your-feet-socks/
They are quite thick. But, I spend alot of time sitting down not moving much in a cold house and they do keep me much warmer than anything else. Might be worth a thought for your long walks. I think there is also a brand name like heat holders---if you can't find these, but I think they're much more expensive. Perhaps with your super bargain hunting you can find them cheaper.0 -
I remember now Gailey, so you are basically stuck with walking for the time being. Wellie socks I bought three pairs for £4 in @sda I think, but I am sure they must be much cheaper elsewhere.
Nutty really pleased DD is eating again, sign of body repairing itself
Mardatha - I have had lights on all day too, its ridiculous but it was so dark and dismal.0 -
Gailey, I have made do with an old coat with years that wasn't quite warm enough and just bought a new one (in Asdars - in the sale of course
) I was torn between warmer or waterproof and in the end went with warm plus umbrella. However if you need your hands to push a buggy though then probably waterproof in a larger size and layer up with a warm fleece and other layers under that.
I find that I am warmer when I have a couple of thin layers then a medium one then if needs be another medium (or if really cold thick) and then a coat. So I am currently wearing a vest, a long sleeve but very thin t-shirt then a warmer top depending on weather how thick then my new coat. I find fleeces very warm as the final layer (or even 2 indoors in different sizes) and they dry quickly as do the thin layers.
I do the same with scarves - start off with a thin one (sort you can wear indoors) then add a medium one on top and then when really cold a thicker one on outside of my coat. Actually when it is freezing I also add a flat wool blend scarf as a sort of shawl inside my coat as well.
Feet get the same treatment very thin socks, add normal then add either popsocks first and/or a thick pair of socks last when its very cold. A pair of innersoles in your shoes/boots help and you can get the thermal type.
Use what you already have as well - I use some PJ tops (vest and fitted T-shirt types) that were given as a gift in PJ sets (don't wear PJs) as my base layer. Summer vests are also good. An old sarong could be used to wrap round under a coat as an extra layer for example. I have used a pair of fleecey bedsocks as mittens even! Have a look around and see if you can adapt anything (maybe not a teacosy on your head though :rotfl:) As long as I not taking my coat off or just at friends I don't care too much what I look like underneath my coat.
sorry to ramble, its my favourite hobby and past my bedtime so getting daft

last idea - I tried on a pair of workout trousers (you know legging type trousers made out of swimming cossie material) under a pair of jeans and felt really warm. Only one pair of jeans are loose enough but in the freezing cold weather they will be worn with workout trousers like longjohns underneath! Primarni do for about £8/10 and imagine will dry quickly too. I can't bear being cold either!0

Wind has eased here and back of the house a wee bit warmer. Going upto shops today to find bubble wrap for kitchen door and side window, also Dunelm for thermal door curtain. Woke at half 5 full of beans and had to get up0

SQ some good idea’s there. Might pinch some myself!!
Having “one of those mornings” so far today.
Started off, Making OH breakfast. Then putting everything away I spent time rearranging the fridge to try & fit the toaster in there…Never noticed until OH was killing himself laughing.
Then it came to me feeding the doggers. I was screaming & raving looking for their food scoop and the entire time I had it in my hand…
I think I can safely say I’m not with it today - Or maybe I am & just never noticed that I’m loosing common sense?
Last night, By far was the coldest night we’ve had so far.
When we took dogs out for their last walk of the night, It was showing at 0C. Then around 5am this morning it was -1C.
It’s the winds doing it here. Its fine when your out of it, But one rush of chilly air & you feel it.
This morning, My pups are on stirke!! Their refusing to move of their beds.
Hope everyone is getting back on their feet. Nothing worse when your knocked for six & have families, dependants waiting on you. Hugs to everyone who would like one xxFuture goals:

Well the meeting of doom is today, so we'll see what happens.
Any trouble and i shall depart and say sorry i've got a lot on at the moment and i think it would be best if i took a back seat till everything calms down and i'm in a better state of mind.
How does that sound?
Well OH has taken the lads to school, i've just done two invoices, slowly the pile is going down. So meeting from 10 -2 but i'll be leaving about 12:30 if not before. Then at the school from 1-6 ish, its FAST tonight and guess what i get to play with the little ones tonightxxx
