The staff on the butcher's stall at the local market told me recently they were no longer allowed to call faggots "faggots" but had to call them "savoury ducks" instead! PC gone mad, methinks....

Re Winnie The Pooh stuff - a friend gave me the Winnie The Pooh Cookbook for my 18th birthday many many years ago - I have treasured it ever since. Each page has a recipe with a little drawing and a quote from one of the books. I also remember receiving a bottle of cherry brandy and one of apricot brandy for the same birthday, quite a different but interesting assortment of gifts I remember.

And on the subject of liqueurs, does anyone remember a purple one called Parfait Amour? Very pretty but revolting taste. And there used to be about 7 different varieties of Pimms, each with a different spirit base.

You are never to old for a bear story! I have always loved Paddington but never had any books. For my 50th birthday hubs bought me the Paddington Treasury for the Very Young, well I am at heart! It's wonderful. The children who come to stay love it too.

I would just like to share with you a lovely gift that my class received from our tutor and each other it turned out. I have just finished an counselling course and met some wonderful people there. On the penultimate class our tutor presented us with small paper boxes that she had made herself with a ribbon on top with our names attached. Inside were blank pieces of paper and were were asked to pass these round the room and each write something on one of the pieces of people that represented what you thought of that person. We were told not to read them until we got home and if ever we doubted ourselves or needed a lift to bring out the box and read what other people thought of us. We were all really touched by this personal gift. as our tutor said it didn't cost much only a bit of time to construct but meant such a lot to us. One of the girls is going to use the idea for her son's going away party when he goes abroad to work. we all agreed what a wonderful personal gift which could be used for weddings, christenings, parties etc with very little cost. I plan to do the same for Christmas for my family, either by cutting out things that I see that might remind me of them or write bits and pieces down and pop them in one of the boxes.
Things are going to be tight for gifts this year so me and hubby will be spending our free time constructing these little boxes, I'm sure they will love them.

That does sound a lovely idea Sugarpuss :smileyhea, Dr KW once made Japanese self sealing boxes and put mini bags of M4lteasers in them as gifts for people in the same Am Dram show he was in.

I saw some Pimms no4 today... And was very tempted by the lychee liqueur and elderflower liqueur but I DON'T need them as I only nano them for chocolate making and the weather is all wrong for it right now!
