  • Morning everyone. I had planned to go out and do a little shopping but sky is grey, wind is strong and it looks like rain may be coming so have decided to stay in and have a baking/cooking/ repairing day. Not the most exciting.:p

(((HUGS))) to all who need them today - and that seems to be quite a few unfortunately.

Pops, sorry the water company not too helpful, hope you have better luck with the HA. Its just ridiculous the way some of your neighbours are carrying on.

Was in Newcastle on Saturday as part of my voluntary role so took advantage to have a look around and found a new Chinese/ Asian supermarket and bakery. Was very impressed and bought 5 100gm packets of spices for the grand total of £2.96. Very MSE.:money: Will definitely go back.

Well the breadmaker is on, the slow cooker is on (rice pudding) and I'm off to make some of Twink's Hobnobs. Hope you all have a good day.

Did the Asian supermarket/bakery happen to be Hi You next to Lau's 202? I love that supermarket!

I am so not nice at times that I would keep a portion aside for him that had so much chillie powder or whatever added that it would blow his head off!!

We drove youngest to train station this morning to go back to uni and popped into T""" and liddley for fruit ,veg, butter, cheese and paint for DH to do the new shed.

Made a chicken noodley stir fry for tonight and might do something simple like sausage and mash tomorrow as there are only three of us at home for the next few days. At the weekend there should be six of us so want to get in meat from butcher and be able to be flexible if we want to eat out, picnic etc.

Hugs to all - especially Mrs C and monnagran - and anyone who could use one.

    Pops

Don't you dare let them intimidate or scare you. You have done nothing wrong!!!

(((((((((((((((Mrs Chip))))))))))))), such sad news for you all. Sorry to hear about George, sounded a real character and much loved - he would have felt it. Huge hugs to you and your family.

Thanks for the tip floss - never heard about tyre insurance, will ask and see what they charge.

I am quietly a little annoyed with his lordship this evening. He has made a few comments too many over the last couple of weeks about my cooking.... yes the cheek of it, the very audacity  Says we don't have spicy food any more, not enough flavour, too many child friendly meals. Well yes we have 2 primary school children who are fairly fussy but gradually trying and eating more variety as they get older. I am not a fan of very spicy myself, mild is fine.

ooops he is coming downstairs will sign off now...

Give him a fiver and send him to the kebab shop.

Pops, if you ever do move, I hope the new tenants for your place are the true neighbours from hell, to give the current contenders for the title a taste of their own medicine.
The...words fail me. I am tempted to get DS on the case.

    Morning all

Beautiful sunrise here, lots of oranges and purples. Hopefully it will stay dry today as I'd love to get the last of the garden bits tidied up.

Had very loud words with DD1 last night, she's being a bit of a hormonal teenager and no matter what I said it was wrong. She got told to go to her room and not come out until her attitude had changed, she appeared 2 hours later and tried acting normal so I pointed her back to her room and told her that an apology would be the first thing out of her mouth next time I saw her. Needless to say I've not seen her yet ;) she can't out strop me, I was a teenager at one point and I did it a lot better than her ;)

A friend gave me a huge carrier bag full of sausages/sausage meat at the weekend, shes a farmers market trader and they all do swaps at the end of the day so as to not have to much left over produce. These sausages were made from piggies just along the road, all sorts of lovely flavours too, garlic, chilli, apple, mustard etc. so I can rejig my menu plan for the month to include some of those. I do love free food!

YS bargains in Mr A yesterday included caulis and broccoli reduced to 37p each but scanned at 10p! A bag of leeks for 20p and some haddock fillets for 76p for 2. I don't normally get so lucky.

  • So sorry to hear your sad news Mrs Chip. Be gentle with yourself for a while as losing a much loved furry friend is hard.

  • SQ, I don't think you should have to cook separate meals. Presumably your OH wanted children and a busy life as well, and that comes with a few sacrifices--and I don't just mean you doing double work to cater to everyone.

However, if he does miss his spice I thin it might be an idea for him to add it at the table, we get very large bags of chilli flakes at the Asian supermarket. I think we paid 1.20 for our last bag which is huge. I decant them into an empty spice jar and put them on the table with any soups, stir fries or stews. OH also always has a jar of hot sauce around. I also think you're right to encourage him to cook more when he can.

Pooky, I'm jealous of your sausages--they sound lush!
  • SQ is he feeling a little bit put to one side? I know he's a grown up but he might be feeling a bit unnecessary in amongst all the parenthood? Would it be nice for both of you to maybe have a couple of set aside evenings a month when the littlies have supper of little person nature and you and he have a nice adult food supper when they've gone up to bed? It doesn't need to be party food, just something that you would do for the kids, with the same ingredients but tweaks? It might even be nice for you too, just a thought, Lyn xxx.

    Morning All,
That sounds lovely Pooky. I wouldn't mind the food retailers having too much left at the end of the day if I knew it was being given to food banks, the poor, soup kitchens etc...or more was reduced for more people but will getting rid of BOGOF and selling smaller sized items result in a reduction in prices, I don't sadly.

It may also mean less items in the reduced area so fewer bargains for us in the reduced area. We know how they charge for smaller items and always have.

It will take time but sorry to hear of George's demise Mrs Chip. The hurting is no less because he was an animal.

The weather generally isn't nice...I feel nothing much about about the "Drain" situation TBH just sad that I seem to have neighbours like that and that they had to move in next to me.

The rest of the street seems fine and I've known most of them for years. Previous neighbours were lovely for almost 50 years so we were lucky.

Seems funny I did nothing wrong and yet I have had to do all the running around.

At least the garden will be sorted by Thursday so another job done.

I've all my entertainment booked upto May(not as many as previously)and spread so thinly its not as costly. Some events are almost free.

I'd love to share meals and cook for more than myself but I guess cooking for one I can have whatever I want. I can manage mild spicy meals but not the hot stuff, TBH I don't do many spicy meals anyhow and have only recently started to use herbs more.

Not a very good night sleep wise(not because of worrying over recent events)just aches and pains and not being able to get comfortable.

Hope its a good day for everyone...

Has anybody ever found a good time to hit supermarkets for whoopsies? I am a fair bit away from them and have only ever got great bargains once. I would go at a diff time if I knew it would be worth it.
