Afternoon all and a big welcome to the lovely newbies :)

Had a stressful morning dealing with phone calls , letters, solicitors, banks re Mum's move to care home so felt I needed to do something practical and calming. So....

Large fruit cake in oven, smells lovely and just what you want in this miserable weather, non stop rain today.

Two wholemeal loaves liberated from Mr T this morning for the princely sum of nine pence each (called in when dropping dd16 at college bus stop so no petrol wasted). Both loaves made into breadcrumbs this afternoon, half now in tray of herb and onion stuffing, other half divided into six portions. Five now in freezer, last portion chilling in fridge in carrot dan chickpea burger mix which will make six mega burgers or several smaller ones.

Also three bags of bread flour purchased on 3 for 2 home baking offer at Mr T. Sourdough starter made and fermenting in kitchen. Never tried it before but love sourdough and can't/won't pay the four pounds a loaf at local shop

Potatoes ready to bake for both DDs and dd18's bf for tea. Leftover yummy tomato and lentil soup for me, toast and HM jam for Dh before he goes training for next weekend's half marathon then tortilla when he gets back.

All in all a thrifty, nutritious day and I feel better for my baking:)

Wish I could share a slice of cake with you all and a nice cuppa.

I can understand all you are going through Alf's Mum it is anything but easy. I think Mum had dementia in the end had times where she did not know me.

Like all the cooking ideas you are up to;)

Will maybe have do more than a salad tonight, thinking vegetable, a little sliced pork, some oven chips that need using and perhaps gravy. Its a bit on the cold side. Going into the garage to dig out the slow cooker pot...Don't ask how it ended up out there:p

well done alfsmum sorting out your mum's move, sounds very stressful. Enjoy your fruitcake (I'll share a virtual slice with you, I'll make the tea!)I haven't had the energy and time together lately to bake and miss it as do the kids. Can't wait to start back again.

    Hugs to you too Princess.

Good posts from nargleblast and Mrs LW for their respective posts for Pops and Princess.

Got DS6 sorted with antibiotic eye drops for an eye infection and has perked up this afternoon so back to school tomorrow.

After the docs, noticed a massive screw type thing in one of my tyres. Made lunch for DS and myself and then went to the nearest tyre place I could find that had indoor reception for DS6 and asked for them to remove the offending item and patch. Unfortunately damage too great (not suprised really size of the whatsit) so need a new tyre. Garage have to order one in as didn't stock and couldn't source one from their local contacts, apparantely unusual tyres, don't know why but the car is an old boy. Garage put the spare on for now so at least I can drive safely and did so cheerfully without charge - very appreciative of their services and told them so.

Disappointed that have to dip into the house repairs fund yet again but at least we can pay for a new tyre without worrying (well I am worried if the house will last the winter as it is but don't want the bigger worry of a loan!)

We waited for ages in doctors to be seen, a good hour then 20 mins at chemist and another wait at garage so the day has been spent in waiting but all necessary stuff.

Really tired and need to find some inspiration for dinner, can't decide whether to use up left over roast chicken from yesterday or just fish out some bits from the freezer. Also want to think of something nice to nibble on this eve hmmmm.

best get on with dinner I guess, it won't cook itself :D

SQ, ask the tyre place to give you insurance on your new tyre, it should only be a few £s but if you get another puncture or nail it is repaired or replaced for free ;)

A very subdued Chip household this evening as our poorly cat George has finally used up all his nine lives. He was a real bu**er at times (in his bruiser days) but we loved him despite his grumpy temperament. He called the shots to the last and leaves a big cat-shaped hole in out hearts .
