I should invest in some decent knives for cutting items when cooking(even if its just a couple)
Recently(well quite a lot of the year)I have been eating meals off plates with a Christmas tree design on them:p"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Pops - just a suggestion, but instead of worrying about buying new plates and knives, why not use the money you would spend on those on taxis home after your nights out. It doesn't matter whether you eat off 'Christmas' plates, getting home safe and warm on a cold winter's night is worth far more to me!
When I recently had to sell me house and move DD and myself in with my parents, I got rid of so much kitchen stuff, knives, utensils, cutlery, glasses etc, and don't plan on having tons of the gubbins when we eventually move out to a new place. When there's only 1 or 2 people in a house, or day I say it, even with a family, you don't need hundreds of mugs and plates, you just need to keep on top of the washing up
I'd rather buy a book than a second tin opener, for example0 -

Morning all, back from a lovely break in the land of the 'canny'
People in Newcastle and Durham are so generous of spirit, i love them all. I struggle at times with Oh and his wheelchair but the entire area is much more wheelchair friendly and everyone helps.
Beamish museum made my heart sing, I am besotted with the place. The guard and driver on the site bus were so lovely that I am going to write and thank them. They have a tail lift on the back and loaded him in and out several times as we went from place to place, he got a bit distressed as he thought there wouldnt be room for me on the main part of the bus but they put me on first and calmed him down.
We managed the whole trip on a low budget (but took emergency money) and still lived like kings. We didnt get a lot of sleep for various reasons so had to pace ourselves but came home over the dales and saw some beautiful places.
I missed so much on here and just want to send hugs to all in trouble, especially Kidcat, Kezlou and Shegar.
Monnagran I would happily have made everything you need for the wedding from flowers, invites and table decs, such shame we are so far apart. I must admit I have always been intrigued about you and Rev and guessed right that you are companionsI do hope you move near one of us O/S'ers xx
burtha sounds like you are having some quality time after all the stress, we all forget things and I am famous for it, theres always something missing from Christmas dinner and its usually found in the microI am so relived the results were not quite as bad as first thought and hope there will be a good outcome hugs ginny
If I have missed anyone out I have enclosed extra hugsClearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
I agree Kitikins,
If I can avoid breaking what I have I need very little now, its good to keep washing to a minimum too. That's why I begrudge sometimes the cost of the CH because money can be diverted to treats that are good for the mind like an odd concert here and there etc...being part of the community.
That and being frugal on food, cooking good, tasty comfort recipes and having a food store frees up money too.
I'll hunt out my plates and see what I have...I'm ok for mugs;)bowls too.
Gailey, well done at CS...just where do all the cutlery and plates disappear to? Its a mystery:p
My favourite piece that always gets lost is the vegetable peeler!
I have a feeling when I start going through what I moved into the loft for quickness during the big tidy when the Housing !!! called items will turn up.
GinnyK, Durham city can be a bit challenging for people with mobility problems but it can be done. Glad it went well and all had a good time. Most of my recent trips have been in that direction, for years the opposite was true."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I don't know if any of you ever came across taxi73 on the DFW board ? Sadly have to report that she passed away last night from cancer.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0

Tied in with Ginny's trip here if I am up to it I may make a couple of visits to Durham in early December as all this is happening between Fri-Sun...

If anyone lives locally they may like to go...I'm at a lunchtime concert on Friday so may have to do more on the Saturday. Would like to see the Salvation Army/brass bands, the carol service in the Cathedral possibly the latern possession the most. I'll just see what happens at the time."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

...Oh SDG - I love the orange cremes, but my fave of all is parma violet and rose cremes...
Oooh, violent cremes as my mum used to call them! Was in Tesco last night but I didn't go down the Christmas aisle...can feel a trip to find those coming on!
Ginny - I love Beamish too, have been going since shortly after it opened many years ago.
Gailey - hope the extra sleeps helps you feel better soon
Kez - am trying to PM you re your hols...BUT YOUR INBOX IS FULL!0 -
OOOH!!! Thanks for the info about Durham pops. Think I might give that a go though as its so far for me to travel I might stay in a hotel overnight.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0

Be nice if you could manage some of it AOL...as always publicity does not always get out. It possible to miss the steepest part of the town bus service every 20 mins outside the bus station. same bus goes to the cathedral.
There is a Premier Inn near the market place/Gala Theatre too. I know of another near the bus station if I can think of its name near the railway bridge.
It will be a first for me too."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
