Just showed DH the new (well CS) tall storage jar which now has the porridge oats he likes for brekkie in it and where it is in the cupboard.

He seemed quite impressed but pointed out that when it is empty he won't know where to look -(idea of asking me a day before when he as the only person using those will notice they are disappearing - did not occur to him!!) The last time they ran out he apparently used something else in a glass jar - asked him to show me what he used- he was looking in the spices cupboard and had spooned dried flaked onion into his bowl:eek:

He has now been taken by the hand and shown where the spare jar of porridge oats is but doubt he will remember next time but hopefully will not grab the onions! ;)

Family stunned by the spiciness of the curry tonight so next time I will have to add a lot less of the curry paste - even DH and I found it a bit overwhelming. Tomorrow might be a good time to make quiches or something milder for us all but with the weather being a bit wet and miserable might make home made chips with it or warm potato salad.

I am :j for joy. A friend of OH's sent us a boot full of plants which cost the princely sum of £5  A rhododendron and 2 bush peonies plus 20 broad bean plants and lots of marigolds. In fact there are so many I cannot remember what else there is. We have a big space at the back where the apple tree's are that needs filling and the bushes will do perfectly. We had decided we were not spending any more money on the garden but it would have been churlish to refuse a bargain like this. I also got a present of about 4 lb of new potatoes Lee had just dug up

I really need to read the packets in the freezer occasionally, just made a big jam tart and lots of little sort of sweet pasties - cut a circle out dot of mincemeat fold over and seal the edges- plus the dregs of pastry rolled out and spread with currants and a little brown sugar(we call it nanny for some reason) and it wasnt shortcrust it was puff pastry so I have lots of little exploding pastries which taste good but look odd:D

Did well on the market, 3lb of rough cut lamb chops for £3.99 so a nice tea for us tonight and quite few more in the freezer.

VJ's mum enjoy the trip, and remember mud is good for the skin:rotfl:
Good luck RPP - Im sure you aced it.
To all in need big hugs from me but mind my right shoulder cos it hurts like billyO.

Mrs LW: Do you take memory pills? You are truly amazing. Fancy you remembering my baguette mountain. D'you know, I think it was after Christmas when we used the last baguette. There may still be some lurking in the odd freezer on the IOW that everyone has forgotten about.

Sow Thistles????? I have to say there are limits to my willingness to experiment and I would have to be pretty desperate to have to start cooking Sow Thistles. I wait with breath well and truly bated to hear what they taste like.

My chickens absolutely love sow thistles....:DIf it counts they would tell you its lovely grub...:)

I find if you leave bread rolls etc they get so hard in the freezer you can t eat them, not even after putting them in the microwave for a few seconds......Its what is called "freezer burn ".........

Taurusgb.........Ive never ever paid £200 for holiday insurance, and I have numerous health conditions pre existing that I have to declare, the most ive paid is £28.......for a weeks holiday....I usually search on line and then pick one , I think it was asda I went with this April and it only cost me £23.....Shop around for it.........
I went to BM stores today , yea I know you have to watch what you are buying cos they do have a lot of crap:eek:, but I did get a nice outside large clock hanging on a bracket, very shabby chic a clock on each side , perennial plants £1.99 each or 3 for £5.........and I got a beaded door thing gig, uhmm you know what I mean, so the flies cant get in, dam brain fog today .................
Lots of plant medicines , chemicals I mean ....God dam this brain fog today.......

The blackbird is singing his heart out right now , its one of the best sounds ever, I could listen to them 24/7.............Ive got about 30 bloody starlings come at once , they screech like mad and eat everything going.....

Well im going to sit back with me can of diet coke and enjoy rest part of the day , I just had a lovely bubble bath I put different bubbly stuff in , it was pure magic .....................Hope your all doing ok, and good luck to all the posters starting on their Kelp, like me, looking for a miracle........:DSheila

The verdict on the falafel burgers is in-
DS2 thinks they need another vegetable in them to break up the texture (I added in half a can of roughly mashed chickpeas, but they were still very dense)
I think they need much more seasoning (I did add some chilli powder)
DH thinks they need lightening (I thought adding a whisked egg white might help)
Overall, not bad, but could be improved. I added in much less than the 3/4 cup of water and the mix was still very sticky. Add in the water a bit at a time instead of in one lot.
I'm sure you lovely ladies can make them better. :)

I generally make falafel with a mix of broad beans and chickpeas, keeping some of each lightly crushed for the added texture.

Hi all, another dodgy sleeper here. Been worse the last 6 months because of a shoulder problem. It has gradually got worse so I can't even sleep on my back for relief. waiting now for a orthopedic appointment as after a scan they see some instability in the joint. Makes sense to me it feels like it's not sitting right in the socket! Aches all the time, but excrutiating if I knock it. Not worn a bra for months, can't get my arm back there. It's the right arm you see, hey ho. The day I had my walk that I described something had gone what I can only describe as a clunk and I felt so much better, no painkillers that space me out and very little pain. I sympathise with anyone in pain for whatever reason it can be debilitating and depressing. anyway last night on going to bed I just brushed my hand against the armchair and agonies, so back to square one, taking my codeine and feeling very sorry for myself. Cheered myself up by making a strawberry crumble.......Mmmmmm.....crumble! Lovely! Any way sorry to grizzle and hope you don't mind me offloading. having a bit of a wallow, I'll be ok tomorrow.

Could you try a pillow to cushion the joint a bit? Does heat treatment or ice packs help any?

I hope things improve for you.

    Evening toughies,

Hugs to everyone with sleep, emotional, mental health or pain problems.

Glad fluffy kitten is eating...6 little meals!! Brilliant!

I have been either on courses or at school all week so coming home to laundry, millions of dishes and general mess. I can imagine what is might be like working full-time with a family to take care of... well actually working school hours with a young family.

Got to see my boys again today doing various sports for their sports week. DS6 is the tallest boy in his class so stands out and he was really enjoying himself and looked confident, such a difference to this time last year when I was worried he wouldn't cope with just a sports day. DH managed to get away from working at home for an hour to watch them and squeeze in some last minute revision.

I have some good news too! DH sat his final exam paper this eve and got the results for that and last weeks and he passed both .... which means he has passed the whole year and can gone on to the final year next year. :j I am more excited than him but then is a laid back soul and I am more emotional.
Apparantely it's tougher next year so they do the hardest stuff in the first few weeks so see if people can cope and if you drop out within that time, they refund the course fee. Eeek!

Managing to cook from scratch and bake some of our bread this week and put washing out on line but nothing much else OS as just haven't had time. I am not being hard on myself as I am very busy doing other important stuff. Can't be in 2 places and all that and I know what my limits are now (unfortunately through experience, I learnt about burnout the hard way).

I have loved reading all the posts about elderflowers, cordials etc. I have never thought about making cordials, I want to have a go at an orange one. DS6 is great for drinking lots of water and milk whereas DS9 likes squash and he is on strict limits with it. Like the sound of an alternative without the nasties in it... it's just the time factor for me sometimes.

One of colleagues on my training course (from the group who have excluded me) has a special birthday tomorrow. I have decided to give her/them another chance (especially now I have spoken to 2 other girls from the other cohort and they are being supportive so I have blossoming friends and some support now :))

I have baked some chocolate cakes in different pastel cupcake cases, they look really sweet and made one bigger muffin size one for the birthday girl. I am about to top them with some chocolate fudge icing so I can suprise her tomorrow. Not sure I have energy for decorations too.

Kept enough mix to make my two a muffin for their special Fri lunchbag (they get a couple of treats like cakes/crisps on Fridays) and they have requested cakes in the coloured cases for the weekend. I usually use plain white or brown cases. Oh and nearly forgot to say I have had to eat one for the purposes of quality control - important job that. :D

okey dokey off to make icing and then to bed
    sq:)
  • SQ brilliant news, very well done MrSQ on passing that last exam, good luck with going on to the final year, we await the good news that you've passed that in the fullness of time!!! Cheers Lyn xxx

Hi Elona, nothing seems to help, had a cortisone injection, physio for 3 months but they said it wasn't improving so tense the referral. Got to wait between 10-13weeks to be contacted for an appointment. Sorry to sound like a whinge, I know there are people who have so many other problems and so much worse. Sometimes you just need to vent frustration.
    I wish all a peaceful night.x
