  • FPK the nicest thing you could make for your friend is a hand written proper hardback recipe book. I did this for both girls a few years ago as a christmas present, they would often phone me for a recipe and wanted to have thier favourite 'Mum' recipes all in one place. So I went through all my recipes and copied out the ones they liked best into a Hard Backed Notebook, you can find them in TK Maximus/ Smiths/ stationery shops at not too much money and it's like giving a little bit of you that she'll be able to keep forever and add to in the future with her own recipes. If you can hand illustrate the recipes it will make it fun too!! Hope that helps, Lyn xxx.
  • Hello to everyone. Its been a grey day here. One of those when the river looks like lead.
Its how I've felt all day as well. I'm another who didn't sleep much last night and as soon as I did manage to drop off - about 3 am-ish - the local foxes decided to contact all their friends. They can be VERY noisy.:eek::eek: Am afraid have just had to have a 'nana nap' as a friend calls it.
Hope the interview went well RRR.
And well done on the win Possession. :T
That falafel burger recipe sounds yum SDG. Think I'll have to give it a go. Does it freeze ok as there is only me to feed?
I've just taken a fruit loaf out of the breadmaker and it smells and looks fab. Hope it tastes as good. Its an experiment for me as I don't like the recipe I have so just invented one-eeek. :o
I too frequent charity shops but usually give up on the books as they are often so disorganised and I just don't have the patience to stand and go through them all. And I get so annoyed at others who just knock me out of the way while I'm looking.
Hugs to all who need them.

Fairy I still have a recipe folder I made 30 years ago, and still use it despite numerous files on the laptop.
AOT I've frozen homemade falafel before and they've been fine.

We've spent all day digging up our horrible claggy clay soil to plant the apple tree, stopped for the school run and by the time they were back it was pouring, so we had emergency planting to stop the hole filling with water. I am now soaking wet and looking as I imagine VJ's Mum will look on Sunday at Glastonbury! It already has 76 little apples on it (DS counted!), I wonder how old it is? It was 50% off at the nursery, so an absolute bargain as long as it survives.

thanks again mrsLW for all the elderflower recipes. more picked today and elderflower liqueur in the jar.

I can't believe how much elderflower there is around and I had never noticed it before.

sorry to hear alot of you had a bad night's sleep. I didn't sleep too well either and kept waking up for no particular reason. we always seem to be rushing in the morning so I set my alarm/radio 15 minutes earlier. I just went back to sleep and got up at the normal time anyway.

congratulations possession on your win. sorry to hear your OH is off work (I hope it was you as I am typing from memory). my OH has been off since Februrary and is now looking to leave permanently and do temporary supply teaching. Hope your apple tre does well and you get lots of fruit from it

fairy I have just started a recipe book for myself using both my mum's recipes and ones I find online. I find it much easier to use a book than look online.

taurusgb hope you manage to get your tooth sorted out especially before you go away. that sounds a fab trip you have planned.

rosiepuddingpaws hope the interview went well

peony hope you are feeling better soon

    welcome valli

does anyone have any good ideas of what to do with bananas apart from banana bread? OH has been buying ys bags and we must have about 15 by now.

I need to wake myself up now as we have to go to ds1 award evening at school this evening. He has won an award for academic achievement but we don't know what for - even the children don't know what it is for until they are presented!

Bunbun you can always freeze bananas to make cake/muffins/smoothies later, or even eat them frozen, they are my DS's favourite snack that way. Mashed frozen banana with a spoonful of peanut butter mixed in is a lovely and healthy icecream.

bunbun2 I've never made this as I don't like bananas, but it is meant to work well. http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-creamy-ice-cream-w-93414

It's basically ice cream made from just frozen bananas, it also includes ways of flavouring it. Hope that helps. :)

Possession - well done on the win! Our dwarf apple tree went in last year, it was brought as a 2 year old tree and we have 8 teeny tiny apples on it this year!

Sympathies for all those in the sleepless club, I've had a spate of it myself....puts you right out for days doesn't it.

I've had a good pottering day today, lots of silly little jobs done, lots of washing done and dried and started a new reupholstery project.

Fluffy kitten is doing well, she ate 6 small meals yesterday and today she's been snacking well. Her back legs are still an issue but she's on the mend, back to the vets tomorrow for a check up.

  • Congratulations Possession on your win. Enjoy your shopping spree. I know it is only school uniform, but shopping without it costing anything has to be a good way forward.

Thank you for the good wishes for my interview. It was only an initial interview and was supposed to take 30-45 minutes. I was there for 55. I hope I didn't put them off by talking too much! It does take time when you discuss the tennis results though. :D

Very tempted by the blackberry cordial option. I have a thornless [STRIKE]triffid[/STRIKE] blackberry in the garden so will hope for a good crop.

Edit to add: so glad to hear fluffy kitten is feeling a lot better, Pooky. Hopefully the back legs will improve soon.

  • With all the talk of collecting recipes and keeping them together in books or folders, I thought I'd put my two'penneth in.
As I have always had atrocious handwriting - and now that arthritic hands have made it worse - I collect recipes I like in a Word document and then print (a few at a time) off.
I then keep them in plastic folders in an A4 ringbinder.
Voila!!! Recipes easy to access on days I don't feel like logging on and kept free from greasy fingerprint and the expected spills or splashes when I am cooking. :)
And (an OS thing) I save paper by printing them on the back of something else I no longer need.
Am sure I am not the only one who does this.
