The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

I'm up and I shouldn't be. Woke up wide awake, so got up. We are down in Cornwall, the bed is tiny, so can't toss and turn as would wake OH.
Kate, so glad the pooch found a home, I think I knew he would, there are so many kind people (but too many unwanted pets:mad:).
Reading through there are a lot of tough times, for all sorts of reasons. Wise words from Monna and others, all I can add is that we all have our own inner strength, you might need to dig for it a bit, but it is there, and once you realise that things get so much better. Don't be swayed by what other people say about you, remember that some people can only get their strength by putting others down, their words mean nothing.
I can very much relate to the sense of loss of a living parent, my mum's stroke left her unable to communicate, the loss of the person we knew ovenight was very difficult to come to terms with, and in many ways I started grieving for her then. So very hard to accept that someone we love is no longer there for us in the same way.
Jem - that set up does not sound right, too many animals in close proximity to other houses, they are bound to cause a nuisance, and it sounds like he is breeding dogs for profit, (see angry face above). So irresponsible, and hopefully the council will get it sorted.
On a much more trivial note, I am fighting a terrible urge to be totally non OS. I have seen a video advert for a gizmo that makes curls. Now I have dead straight hair, which is now long as I can no longer afford to keep it cut into a style (it grows quickly). Said gizmo sucks the hair in, does something akin to magic and creates beautiful curls in minutes. I have always wanted curls, have envied those with curls, and have never been able to keep them in more than five minutes before they drop into rats tails. Reports I have read say this wonderous machine fixes that. Ho, thinks I, let me see how much this very necessary bit of kit (not) will cost me - 120 of your Welsh pounds please :eek::eek:!!!. BUT I want curls:o:o. I am 55 this month, and thinking that my days of wearing long curly hair are numbered, so this might be my last chance. OH said curls would not suit me but what does he know
. Please someone talk some sense into me!
Pops - ginger shortbread would be lovely. I like to use stem ginger in syrup, just drain and finely chop a couple of lumps and add to the mixture. I hated ginger with a passion as a child, now I love it in all forms apart from gingernut biscuits!
Right, going to try to get a bit more sleep, or I will be fit for nothing come the day, and we are on our holibobs!
Have a good weekend everyone, Kidcat try to take 5 for yourself!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Thanks for the tip Mrs Chip,
Hope you get more sleep...Its not so bad for me seeing I've already had hours of it...
I know I lost Mum to Cancer but I think there was some dementia(caused by mini strokes)missed by the GP and myself and there was a time where she did not know who I was(temporary)but who knows where that would have led.
Difficult to accept on many levels...May try and get a few hours and make the effort to get out...thinking the market town of Morpeth this time approx 90mins to 2 hours depending on changing of buses."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Cheapskate - i do understand as I am going through the very same with my Father. I am also having to support my mother who is herself quite needy. I never had any siblings and have always missed them and feel that very much atm, although they may have not been very supportive so that is a positive for you x
Very upsetting event yesterday as Poppy dog bit Molly dog and it was totally unexpected and never happened before. Having examined the scenario we think it is because Pops cannot see out as she is very furry so have cut her eyebrows this morning. Pops showed instant signs of remorse so I do hope and pray it is a one-off. I have never had this happen in a whole life-time of dog ownership and Pops and Molly have been firm friends for 8 years:(I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Thanks everyone for your lovely, supportive comments re mum's situation.
Monna, I know exactly what you mean, when my grandma passed (mum's mum and had same type of dementia), most of what we all felt was sheer relief that she was at peace, then we felt guilty for not properly crying etc., but after the funeral (plenty tears shed then, of course) we realised that we'd grieved inch by inch, just as you said, before she physically went.
Littlies up super early today, both kn@ckered, yet didn't have a lie in, sniping at each other - oh, the joys of weekends with children! :rotfl:
molly, hope your little chums make up and all's well.
Sorry to cut and run, WW3 has just commenced in the other room!

Hi everyone Pops enjoy your baking. I love to bake but recently haven't felt up to it. I am going to change that today though:)
I feel happy when I bake something and my dh and ds enjoy and tell me it is much nicer than shop bought:) There have been times when something hasn't turned out well but it isn't the end of the world and you can always have another go at it next time
Hope you enjoy the bingo when you go too Pops.
The rain has ceased this morning such joyI have a load of washing to hang out and another load of bedding to put on too.
Hope you all have a good weekend and for those who are gong through stressful times a big hug to you all. Does my heart good to come on here and see the support for each other and the caring there is too.
Take care all, Margaret xxDo a little kindness every day.;)0 -
Hi MOLLY hope Molly dog is ok today, the only time I've seen Docky react was with his very best friend Charlie the retriever and they'd never ever had anything except total tolerance and understanding between them in all the time they've known each other and one day they were here in the lounge and charlie found one of Docks biscuits in a corner near his bed and Dock just flew at him completely out of the blue and had a real swear and made contact teeth wise. It's never happened again and I've fed them biscuits side by side in sequence so just a one off, perhaps Poppy was feeling out of sorts or something happened to make her react, but they're good friends and it shouldn't be a problem in thier lives, Love and Hugsd to all of you, puppies included Lyn xxx.0

And I want to talk dh into going to Blackpool tonight to see the light. Kids will love em we have never been before. XI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
Mrs Chip don't waste your money on a curl machine. I have had curly hair all my life, when I was younger would have given anything for straight hair, used to go to bed in huge rollers. Its not so bad now as it is finer.
With straight hair you have a myriad of styles to choose from, even perms, but with curly hair your stuck with one style.

Wise words monnagran and I felt the same way when my lovely dad passed. In my mind he had been gone 6 years really. I got a Spiritualist minister to do the funeral, and just before they lowered the coffin a voice told me "look up"... and a flock of ten beautiful white racing pigeons passed overhead, the soft whirr of their wings was lovely. My dad was one of ten, so I knew he was with his brothers & sisters and doing a fly past lol (he was in the RAF)0

Thanks Jem, that is a kind offer! I have got wandy things, they are a major faff, and don't really work for my hair. This thing is a new wonder of the modern age (but does anyone remember Tressy dolls, with har that grew? I think this thing works the same way but in reverse) and rolls the hair up inside a big doofer on the end. If you have one of those going begging it's worth trying to sell it, they are hot stuff at the moment!
Big J - ain't it just the way that we always want what we have not got hair-wise. Mum had curly blond hair and hated it. I have got staight brown hair and wish it was curly, I wonder how many people are happy with the hair they were dealt? OH has no hair, but he says he is happy with that!:rotfl:.
Honestly, you would think I was a vain teen, but frankly I care not a jot what I look like, I just love curly locks!
Molly - I am sure it was a one off, after a bit of a cool off they will be best of friends again.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
