books wise, i've been reading Gena Showalter, it fanasty romance and the homour is great. My friend LA borrowed me them and ahem lets just fifty shades has nothing on these. I also like the characters and the use of greek mythology, really good stories.

Just finished The clergyman's Daughter, not George Orwells best piece of work but it was still good. Try Doris Lessing she's political, romantic and some crime solving all in one. Pretty good and not all all scary.

Oh Mar could you recommend any books for me, i love sci fi, fantasy, like zombies things. In other words i like a bit of everything!

Afternoon everyone. Fuddle I wouldn't read Stephen King  I'm a total wimp. I like my books like my films, to be sweet, thought provoking and well written. I can do challenging subject matter OF MY CHOICE with taste, but don't do gore, horror (but do like a bit of Anne Rice - don't mind vampires) or mystery. Mind you I'm reading a mystery at the moment and quite enjoying it, but it's quite whimsical. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Sweetness-Bottom-Pie-Mystery/dp/0752883216

My neighbour is always trying to persuade me to go to the cinema with her, but there's hardly ever anything on that I think I'd enjoy (I am a very 'visual' person and find it hard to block images out of my head) last time she persuaded me Black Swan would be OK cos' it was about ballet? Anyone seen it :rotfl: she was apologising all the way home!

Anyway, I did the baking shop today, used my Ald! voucher, and picked up one of those Crochet books I mentioned. I picked up reduced minced pork and mushrooms in Mr T (Ald! doesn't have everything I use unfortunately) will make dinner out of those, I have some buckwheat to try out, so thought I might try a kind of garlicky mushroom, grain, stuffed pork thing!

I came home and threw the hoover round in a paddy, because it always falls to me. OH has been 'busy' all weekend doing a quote...so far to busy to help with house work *hand to forehead in affected manner. The pile of his washing to put away is quite substantial now. I am not doing it anymore! The menfolk in this house do not KNOW they are born. I've had enough. If we have a nice dinner, it's because I want one!!! Like last night. It was super tasty, and for once OH did make a few appreciative noises, but it was probably more to do with having all his garden veg in than the efforts I went to with a can of reduced cider, remains of a pot of cream, reduced chicken etc... Spoilt!!!

Have you tried Charlaine Harris, J.D. Robb , Sherrilynn Kenyon or Kelley Armstrong?

None of the above suitable for fuddle.

    Fuddle

Before she "became" M.C. Beaton she was Marion Chesney and wrote a lot of gentle slightly humourous Regency romances and you might enjoy some of these.

    Mardatha

Some of what I read is gentle and fluffy - others more fantasy, historical or gritty crime which I would not suggest to everyone.

I hope you feel better soon and it is so unfair people like "the witches" seem to go on their destructive way unscathed. Hope Karma or something bites them on the bum!

This may be a bit passive aggressive but if a nice meal is all to do with the veg he grows - make him a nice plate heaped with them!

Just the veg!!!! Nothing fancy done to them, no sauces, herbs, spices - zilch.;)

Fuddle, I used to listen to Agatha Raisin on R4 where they were dramatised and starred Penelope Keith. Think Murder She Wrote I suppose. Accidentally seems to be where a mystery/murder happens and gets in the way of the local police. Not gruesome...

I stayed home...rested overnight but have been zonked out most of today(going to blame the jabs)which are sore this time unlike other years.

So slept through a lot of what I usually listen to on Sunday mornings/lunchtimes but now just easy music as I used to share with Mum...

Must wake up for my bingo club later...if I could win the £1 sticky thirteen game I'd be back in pocket:pusual prize is £30.

Goodluck pops, the winnings would be welcome I'm sure.

I enjoyed the fantasy 'shannarah series' by Terry Brooks. Grippping but nothing gruesome. Raymond Feist's Faerie Tale si good too.

The His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman is very good, a mix of fantasy, adventure and a cracking good story. I found it terribly hard to read, I am such a wet nellie, I was snivelling all the time. I never did finish it (because I got to the point where I knew I would be in bits*), so not sure I an qualified to write a review! It was written for children, but you would never know. The writing is terriffic, and very thought-provoking.

    * I also sobbed most of the way through Forrest Gump, so just shows what a lightweight I am!

That's on my to read list...I have vols 2 and 3 here, but I can't find Vol 1 I know the kids had it, I've been looking for it since before we moved!!!

Most of my favourite books are kids books - has anyone read The little white horse, by Elizabeth goodge? They made it into a God awful Disney film called the Secret of Moonacre - but the original book is lovely!

LOL Mrs C. You can come to the pictures with me and we'll wimp our way through together, a nice Disney film usually does it for me!
