Remember, my fly spray was 82p in Wilkinsons and I did not pay what the others cost(around £2.50)and its worked fine."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

DH starts radiotherapy on Tuesday so after a month of daily treatment we hope to have stopped the carcinoma in its's tracks. Trying him on home made smoothies, blended soups etc so he gets used to certain dishes before he needs to have them if treatment affects his ability to chew, swallow etc.
Elona, might you consider making some kefir for your DH and incorporating it into smoothies, etc? There's an OS thread on it here:

I have just got some, it is intriguing stuff, and seems to have loads of health benefits! Wishing you both all the best for his treatment. xx the cake0 -
Enola , have you spoken to the dietian (sp) at the hospitial? If not ask to be refured they were amazing during my DH's last rounds of treatment.
and not sure if you know, but if he has a formal diognose of cancer, he is intiled to free perscriptions, and would be for the next 5 years.today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

I would like to ask you what you all think about coffee? You know I'm a bit unstable. Anxiety, depressive tendancies, overactive thoughts and my need to be prepared and organised for everything eventuality that I can think of? Well that's me in a nutshell and I don't medicate for any of it just my dietry supplements. Normally I'm ok, a bit stressy at time but alright and functioning quite happily. Remember I said I was enjoying a few cups of coffee a day over the holidays? Well these past two days of getting ready for school I have been very frantic and almost manic, fuelled by the need to get to school all present and correct, neat tidy and organised... and get there early. I caught glimpses of the girls' faces as I was reaming fast instructions and knew I wasn't behaving right but couldn't stop it. I've home 45 minutes and still shaking. I'm having a camomile tea but feel like I could sleep.
I haven't noticed coffee effecting me at all over the holidays but I haven't needed be any where really. Do you think it could be the coffee making me over react? I can't pinpoint anything else that would get me so off balance.
Interesting questionI have mental health problems (diagnosed Atypical Bipolar and on a truck-load of medication) and have noticed increased anxiety with coffee and agitation with fizzy drinks (like Pepsi Max which is my weakness). I still drink both but I suffer the consequences and am considering giving them up.
Proud Mummy alert..... She passed!!!!! Woooooooo!
Congratulations Ms Pooky!
Not been at the computer much for a few days - am sleeping lots as I've a nasty cold and am feeling quite sorry for myself. The good, MSE news is that I've lettuce thinnings to add to my lunchtime salad, Sweet Potato Soup in the SC and a wholemeal loaf in the BM. The laundry's up to date and the dishwasher's just waiting for the lunctime things before it goes on. And, speaking of lunch ...Household: Laura + William-cat
Not Buying It in 20150 -
Afternoon Toughies, the lurcha and I have just got back from our afternoon walkies and it's the first time this month I've wished I had gloves with me. There was a really stiff breeze coming off the river and it was cold!!!!! We've started the garden dismantle for the winter, our wigwam of runner beans is finished so that will come down later on, the courgettes have got mildew and have slowed dramatically so they'll come out too. He Who Knows cut all the front hedges this morning and we've taken out a flower bed that was permanently in the shade and put it down to grass seed which will make it much easier to look after. I made us stuffed courgettes for lunch with all the bits and pieces that needed using up from the fridge and that was very nice. It's like a solid version of bottom of the fridge soup!!! Not looking forward to the first storm of autumn coming our way tomorrow, I wonder how many apples will be left on my tree by the time it's passed through? They're not quite ready to pick yet so I'll hope they stick tight to the tree. We currently have 21 gallons of cider burbling away or settling in the shed, and we're running out of fermentation vessles, not a complaint though! Have a nice afternoon and take care tomorrow in all the high winds they are predicting, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Yes very nasty winds and rain tomorrow Lyn. DH is still intent on going fishing as it's a major competition and he might win something. Personally I think he's loopy.
We got up to the big butchers today, the one I used to walk to where I used to live. All stocked on chicken and mince for the month at a fraction of what I would normally pay
We have to bathe in candle light tonight as the bulb has gone. We have a supply of back up bulbs but the bathroom seems to be of different fitting. Neither of us can be bothered to go to the DIY store so eh, candle light it isAnd I call meself a prepper huh?
Mam has called me to tell me that she has rollicked my aunty as she started badmouthing me over the whole sorry mess. Mam took offense on my behalf and told her she's not welcome and that I am coming up to help her out in 2 weekend's time!! I will, I'd be up there like a shot but I hope she means it. Fancy that? My mam sticking up for me0 -
I have loads of fruit flys too but have made a contraption I saw on a blog with a jam jar, balsamic vinegar, bit of ripe fruit, washing up liquid and a cone of paper so they can fly into the yummy drink but not fly out. It must be a bad year for them. I think the blackberries for my jam attracted them. Seems to be working, I have as few chemicals as possible in the house and hate fly spray.
Shegar, hope Hubbys back improves and you get a breather, OH has had amitryptaline on occasion and it has been a great help and doesnt give you a hangover.
Elona hope the treatment goes well, sounds as it you are organised. It does help to occupy your mind and means you wont be rushing round for things on the last minute. Dont forget how nice simple old jelly is when your throat is sore, very soothing. xClearing the junk to travel light

Yes it was a rare for me to go down this route and I thankfully used very little. This can could last a long, long time. I don't remember buying any in over 50+years.
I am staying in, not going anywhere...doesn't sound too good weatherwise tomorrow either. There is an open air concert in Darlington for free but I don't fancy trying to stand for hours and the main group doesn't come on stage until 4pm. And if the weather is poor its a market place.
I sometimes wonder how I manage to fill the long hours and avoid boredom most of the time...but I do."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I forgot about jelly - was concentrating on smoothies, soups, stews and ice cream. Suppose home made ice cream or "delight" thingy could be good too. Thanks for reminding me. :A
DH and dd have come home after driving youngest to uni and I spent hours clearing and washing kitchen. Still have double sinks to scrub and bleach and then want to try the anti colour run treatment for dd's two blouses - fingers crossed.
Family fancy home made pizza tonight so will put ingredients in breadmaker later.
I found out the carrots in big bag seem to be attracting fruit flies
so have washed , peeled chopped and frozen some and DH is throwing out the rest.

Elona - you can also make jelly from real fruit juice (sweetened if necessary depending on the fruit) by using either leaf or granule gelatine (or agar agar if veggie) to get some real vitamins etc into him. It's as easy as a packet just a little more faffy to get the juice. If you up the ratio of gelatine to juice you can even make fresh juice sweeties, like home made York fruit jellies.
Well that must be a record, DD was so shattered she was in bed for 5 to 6!! Hope she doesn't wake up too early tomorrow as a result but it'll be DH's turn to get up with her if she does as he owes me one for letting him sleep in with DS this morning!
Treated ourselves to a bottle of Mango vodka that was on offer in Mr T when we nipped in for something else and as we won't have DH's discount for much longer I'm calling it an investment! lol Going to make sure we're well stocked up on the essentials that we go through load of like nappies and wipes as well before the card goes!
Hope everyone is ok - hugs where needed - X0
