Princess....
I echo what others have said, he should be reported. When I had my breakdown and subsequent depression my Doctor was fantastic. I then had to change surgeries because of a move and was treated poorly by Dr. I was assigned to, I refused to see her again. I now see another partner who is very helpful, has got me counselling and given me information sheets. I started on magnesium last October and feel brilliant.
You need to have confidence in your Doctor and he certainly doesn't seem to have given you that.
Take care.0 -
I had ten years of being told I had depression Debs - and nobody less likely to get it on the planet than me. I had ME. I told my gp that if he bloody well felt as bad as I did then he would be depressed as well - but its an effect and not the cause. I think they get extra money for having depressed patients - its the only explanation I can think of.
My youngest son just phoned to say he's cut off his finger at work with a bandsaw, and is at hospital. Everytime you take your eye off the ball, life whumps you on the nose eh.0 -
Eeeeeek, Mad - I hope he's ok (silly thing to say considering he's sliced his finger off!!!)
Having a "use it up" day, DDs and their respective BFs are all having different meals this evening as I had lots of "one of this and one of that" in the freezer. Huge vat of veggi chilli bubbling away for DH and I (and to fit into the reclaimed freezer space!)
I went for my top up shop this morning and only brought what I went in for....it's a miracle."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Also, there was someone worried about the cost of books for Uni--a few tricks--
-always check to see if you can buy used. If the book is a new edition then it is worth e-mailing the TA or the lecturer to see if the last edition is ok too. In some of the courses I teach on the last edition is a little different, but not enough to make a difference. In one case the book is substantially different but we only use one of the chapters that has changed so I always tell the student just to get that particular chapter from the library and buy the cheaper option.
-Try both amaz0n and a website called abebooks for used books. Sometimes Abe is cheaper.
-Check notice boards around the lecture halls. Sometimes students from the previous year still have books and will want to sell their old ones.
-Have her look through the courseguide and see just how much reading is needed from each text. If she will only need four chapters from a book six weeks into the term then go to the library NOW before it gets busy and every other student needs those four chapters. You can legally photocopy up to one chapter at a time as long as it is for personal use. How strictly libraries monitor this varies, but it is their job to enforce copyright laws so she may need to go in individual trips for multiple chapters.
-In the event that she needs the book each week (or most weeks) then definitely buy it. Students who don't have the main books for my course almost invariably struggle as there is too much demand in the library.
-Check online to see if an ebook is available. Most textbooks won't be, but there is a service called Dawson era that many university's use that has multiple copies of some textbooks. Reading off screen can be uncomfortable but if it is only for a few chapters it can save some money.
I hope this helps.
FPK, thanks so much for your time writing this. The course is adult nursing so some dictionaries will be needed long term but hopefully other books can be borrowed or bits of them copied as you suggest.0 -

Oh my goodness, I hope he is being dramatic and has cut it not cut it off! Hope he's OK.0 -

And yes some people may be seen as having no reason to be down as all seems ok in their lives and some have big hurdles to overcome. The mind is a complex thing to understand and there is so much that is unknown.
If you break a leg you can see it is broken and see it is better when healed besides it could be a chemical imbalance.
That is also another reason some suffer with SAD and I doubt work would cure that. Being unemployed for whatever reason...sorry "Not Working" is not necessarily why someone is depressed and many jobs cause stress which can result in depression...one size does not fit all.
Some Dr's write some very unhelpful in their notes(in your records)I worked once in a surgery in work placement and can't remember how or why(or whether I should have seen what I did)but some remarks were biased/subjective about a patient not pure medical judgement but an impression. And this is over 25 years ago.
Since then I have always thought if they say that what are they saying about the rest of us when we visit our own Dr.
Very well put Pops, just because people can't SEE an illness in the way that they SEE an injury like a broken leg doesn't mean that the illness isn't there and just as debilitating.0 -
Thanks everyone for all the advice on books for Uni. dd won't be buying anything until she's spoken to the tutors and found out what she really needs.
Dd16 had her induction at college today, went ok but we were almost late because of endless roadworks. She came back on the bus in a mini heat wave and as she has been dressed to keep warm as it was really chilly this morning, she was a very hot and disgruntled bunny.
Temperatures are forecast to stay in the mid to high twenties this week.0 -
