There are a fair few butter dishes on Amazon fuddleMust use my stash up!0

That's brilliant news, thank you all. Super idea nuatha to only keep a workable slab out in the hot weather and I will keep it in the cupboard Lyn as the kitchen gets full sun till 2pm.
Now then.. any idea where I can purchase a butter dish. I suspect they are of bygone era?
They do a white one for £5 in Wilkos, and there are plenty on Amazon, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to be able to pick a stainless steel one up in Poundland or some such place for, well, £1. I have this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BHL-Glass-Butter-Dish-With/dp/B0007VGS1C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1372158138&sr=8-2&keywords=butter+dish0 -
Charity shops are also a good place to pick up a butter dish.
Probably the cheapest option too-unless you frequent car boots.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

I keep butter out in small pieces as well. We don't use it all that quickly, and I can't stand the taste of it when I goes a bit rancid. I searched high and low for a butter dish in the CS when I moved here, and for some reason couldn't find one, although I've seen many of them lately. I refused to pay the supermarket price for one at about £4. Instead, I have a little crystal plate with a round bell shaped cover. It is too small for a whole block of butter but works for what we need out. I'm not sure what it was intended for, it says avon on the bottom. I've also gone the bowl/plate route. The only suggestion I have to add is if you decide to improvise, it is helpful if the dish has a lip around the edge, or is slightly bowl shaped. If the butter melts a bit, it helps contain it.
Peony, I think you're right--it is how it was presented. I'd be frustrated too if I was promised a session on time management and got the seminar SQ was in. I think it is great to be able to explore options until you find something that is right for you, and I like for people to feel like there are options--but I'm always sceptical with one-size fits all approaches--conventional or not!
I'm flagging today--quite tired and a bit of a sinus headache. Fortunately my work tasks are pleasant. I may try to finish up a bit early so I can get a bit of work done in the garden before it is back to the wardrobes. The broccoli needs to be thinned, and there are a number of slugs that did not survive the rain and my defences and they need to be removed. I've also got two milk cartons ready to cut, and some plants ready to transplant so will try to get those done.
There weren't any ready made leftovers for lunch, so I've improvised. The only thing we did have was a bit of leftover cous cous that was nearing the end of its edible life, so I've squeezed on some lemon, added cucumber and a pinch of the feta for tonight's salad. I imagine I'll be hungry again mid afternoon, but I do think I might be in the mood for cinnamon toast.0 -
Thank you all so much for your advice. A bowl and side plate it is with tubberware storing the second half in the fridge. I never would have known that.
I saw a pic online Lyn of the fritters dipped in batter and fried with their stalks on but I'm going to do as you suggest and drop the little flowers into the mix without any stalks.cordial for lunch with tuna and raw broccoli. Cordial surpasses my expectations. I'm hooked!
Some of you asked me to keep you updated with the progress of the cygnets...0 -

Afternoon All,
Well firstly belated Birthday Greetings Pookey. I hope the day is a good one, I guess the best treat will be to see your poorly cat improve...
Love the Birthday gift from your daughters.
For those who enjoyed the link, thanks.
I like the idea of cosmetically still having nice things to make my food look nicer and a bit more special but I tend to now stick to one plate, one bowl, one knife, folk and spoon. I used to and will again buy clover butter but have thought *od it and especially look for offers on butter(or spreadables)and its my luxury. I find it soon goes soft if removed from the fridge.
I tend to stick to Lurpack or Anchor. A butter dish sounds nice but being single and not having visitors its such a quick turnover I just use the tub it is in.
I sometimes treat cheese the same way as even a top chef has said it does not always need to be in the fridge.
Yes a plate with bowl over the top would work fine. Simple solutions...yes a small food container too...
Right I think the cheesy, potato, bacon bake is on for tonight. Will decide what to have with it. Vegetables for sure but meat or fish?
Perhaps followed by something I brought back thanks to my friend at the food event. Lots of positive feedback in the local press/internet about the day. Pity getting there and back was difficult.
Some of the gifts I planned to buy had sold out(but more is being made as I speak)so I will be buying soon. But I have one gift for my friend on here to give tonight at the music club.
Ginger scones, ginger beer will be next. To bring the cost down(the beer isn't cheap but is special)its £4 per bottle but buy three it reduces to almost £3 per bottle so in line with shop prices. And its a treat, it could not be purchased regularly.

Hi FUDDLE I'm so pleased that the cordial is good, I know how much you've wanted to make your own and isn't it lovely that you finally have? Make some to store, and in the autumn I'll give you the recipe and method to make elderberry cordial too, I make it every year and it's a nice hot drink in the winter that is also an old fashioned cough/cold treatment that really works. The swan and cygnet picture is beautiful, they all look healthy and the adults must be good parents as they still have all 8 with them, thank you for sharing it, Love Lyn xxx.0
