Shortcrust Pastry (using a food processor)
To make 300g of pastry (perfect for an average sized quiche):
    190g plain flour
    90g softened butter
    50ml water
    Pinch of salt
Fit the dough blade (mine is white plastic). Put the flour, salt and roughly cut up butter into the container. Switch on, when slightly mixed add water via the feed tube. Switch off as soon as it forms into a ball (very important not to overprocess). Chill for at least an hour before rolling out. Also freezes very well.

This is very quick indeed, and works every time - do try it if you have a food processor. I usually make it in three batches and freeze two; it has transformed my enthusiasm for making useful and yummy quiches! And it's not messy either ... HTH, the cake (or maybe the quiche?)

With some of the tales of back stabbing friends on here...I came across this, any of these seem familiar?

    HELP PLEASE

I just made the lemon curd cake and when I put the skewer in it came out with mixture on. I don't know if this is right because it's the curd or needs to be done for longer? I've put it back in but how should it be?

I do a similar thing with puff pastry but posh it up a bit by doing individual squares - I smear green pesto round all but the cm nearest the edge then add slices of tomato and mozzarella before milk washing the edge (or egg if I've got some on the go) and then baking for about 10 minutes. It was one of the things I used to put on the specials board in the tearoom in the summer and always went down well.

Had quite a quiet day today - just went to the big park with the kids and the tricycle to do some trike-el-ing (DD's word for it) - they both did really well, DS actually enjoyed it this time! then we had ice creams and came home.

    Take care all - X
  • I've just finished my post-work blackberrying/walk. I've got a nice tub full. I'm hoping I have enough to mix with an apple or two for a crumble for OH's parents tomorrow night. For all of those more experienced of you out there, how do you clean yours? I'd normally just give them a rinse, but there are a few moving guests amongst them so I'm thinking a soak, either in water or a bit of vinegar and water?

It was very enjoyable. I was along the same walking/cycling path that OH goes for his jog on and he caught me on the way back. I could tell he was tempted. The cat owner friends have invited us for dinner on the weekend and suggested we do a bit of berry picking then. I haven't mentioned it to him yet, but I'll make a forager out of him yet:rotfl: Anything we get then I think I'll try to freeze. I only took a small box today thinking I would be discouraged if I didn't fill it and of course I didn't want to take more than my fair share---oh, I shouldn't have worried!:rotfl:

And, I think it was GQ who was stopped and asked if they were poisonous. Well, a youth, you know the sort, trouser down around about where they'd be for an injection and music blaring out of his phone rode past me. He slowed down, took a long look and said, "Those are nice them, I had some of 'em." I guess there is hope for some of today's youth.;)
  • The cake,

I don't have a food processor, but I do have a mixer, do you think it would work that way? I'm determined I'll learn to do it well by the end of 2014!

I soak mine in plenty of salty water, the wrigglers tend to float up and can be lifted out.

I'm roasting a small joint of beef for dinner, it's the 13thanniversary of when we first met today so thougght I'd make the effort to make a lovely dinner and celebrate the occasion properly. We're a good advert for meeting online!

Well we went brambling and got about four butter tubs worth, mostly they were red so we'll be back next week for them! We weren't the only ones they was a woman who literally had two massive boxes full with looked like 10kilos of berries in.
Kids loved it, then we came back, wacthced a film. Had pizza wraps, potato salad and quiche for lunch then boys went back out with paper boats to float along the beck. Happy days.

Were sorted for tomorrow, just need to make the sarnies and were done!
My sisters going tomorrow and so my friend, S so it should be fun :)
We'll all split up but the idea is that it should be fun small spend day. A treat of ice creams while were out, if its hot.

FairyP it was me that was asked if the berries were poisonous :o glad you found a youngster who understood. Picked a few more today, they are fab this year and I am looking forward to the jam and sauce from them.

Stilty sounds like a fun day. Dd borrowed the car as we were staying in and took DGs on a boating lake - he loves boats and adventures :)which is a good job as his daddy is a real outdoorsy guy. We had a quiet day, OH slept and I stitched - perfect!
