  • Monnagran, that kitchen sounds wonderful. I shall be reminding myself in future that the best kitchens smell like nice food, always have a mug ready for a warm drink, and reflect the people who live in them.

....Now they want smoked salmon and scrambled eggs tomoz, my questions are 1,can you use the salmon ends in a packet from Mr S for 96p
2,what the bloody hell do I do with it.
I apologise in advance I just don't have a clue but happy the boys want to try new foods.

Yes, best thing to use is trimmings! Just make your scrambled eggs as normal, just before they are ready store in chopped smoked salmon and stir, then serve on buttered toast... Scrummy!

Plans for today include saying hello to my allotment, making blackberry & apple jelly (just the jellying to do, the pulp has been straining overnight), make almond paste for my in-laws diamond wedding cake, clear up the mess I will make in the kitchen and feed DH at regular intervals!

Then as we are off all week, we are planning to go for a walk later to check how the sloes & rosehips are doing, and I think we will see if we can find a pub serving real ales servings and get a bit squiffy!

Have a good day all - and if anyone is interested there are loads of blackberries in the rural areas around Blackpool!

    Morning toughies!

I've not been up long, slept for hours and very relieved. I have odd bouts of insomnia (not had one for a while touch wood) and worry when I don't sleep that it's starting up again (and of course worry is the worse thing). Feel a bit groggy but had breakfast, juice and coffee and they are taking effect.

Have some washing on, still have a mini mountain to catch up on and sun is shining so all good :). As soon as washing is pegged out, we are off for one of our fav family activities, swimming. I think pool closes midday so we had better look sharpish. Now kids swim near lengths and splash less (though DH still up for giving them rides on his back of course), an hour is enough for them and DH and I can take it in turns to do the odd length too. Also means I can have a nice hot shower after (been without a working shower for well over a year now :() and wash my long hair without the faff of jugs.

Still have my Liddlylees £5 off voucher and need some fresh bits so plan to pop in after lunch. If anyone has the voucher, today is last day to spend it.

Back later to catch up on posts, off to squeeze into me cozzie (not a sight for the faint hearted :rotfl:)

    Happy Bank Hol Monday everyone

Notjustlaura my garden is 6/7 weeks behind the south of England, but I'm at 1000ft. You'll be lower and you're in the west which is milder. Maybe 4 weeks behind? And an awful lot of the things they can grow down there, we can't. Ask westcoastscot, she's up the coast a wee bit from you and she grows stuff.

JEM well found honeybunch, what a saving and the ug type boots as slippers will keep your tootsies toasty warm through the cold weather, now that's what I call savvy spending!!!

MONNAGRAN I subscribe to the lived in look for the whole house, including the kitchen, years ago when DD2 was at uni it used to make me so happy when her friends, also at uni but known from schooldays came to visit and always gravitated to the kitchen where I was cooking and without fail would say Oh that smells like home, I know I'm back when I can come and have coffee in your kitchen because it smells and feels like home should!!! No mention of it being scruffy and well loved, no note taken that it was probably untidy just that feeling that the world was right because it was working and nice food was being cooked, lovely!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

Well done on getting the boots. I know you want to make do with the coat but if you should stumble across a really good buy in a waterproof and warm coat promise us you will get it. The one I got and felt guilty spending the money for is now about to handle its third winter and makes such a difference to how I feel when outside. It ended up cheaper than a supermarket one and what a difference.

DH took my laptop for a health check and I have just got it back so checking in.

    Kezlou

Glad you are being proactive against the threats and accusations but  that you should have to be IYKWIM.

Middle dd has gone off to look at preloved cars with DH after driving youngest to last day at one of her temp jobs. They scoffed all the buttermilk crumpets so I had toast and coffee.

Breadmaker is on to make dough for rolls and have leeks for leek and potato soup for lunch. Made apple pie yesterday and have been using the ready made as I am not confident making my own and dds suggested it would be even nicer if I tried my own pastry. Suppose a shufty at the bero book could be an idea for pastry.

I know I can do bred, rolls and pizza but the breadmaker does the prep for that so I feel less apprehensive about results.

Does anyone think that since the early sixties there seems to have been a concerted campaign to brainwash into thinking factory made is better and cooking is difficult, time consuming and not worth it as well as inferior?

ELona, I agree with your comment about being brainwashed into thinking ready made is better, I think it came about when people started getting freezers, but in our house, shop bought pastry really is better!

    Morning All,
Well that's the Stockton Show out the window...I'm too tired and the buses could be better blame the Bank Holiday. Perhaps next year?

Sleep is troubled at present again due to pain in the "old legs" Goes away if I sit up...but I want to lie down and sleep during the nightemo2.gifemo13.gif

Still annoyingly now its day time and now my legs behave themselves.

Its not all bad news though...I did just about manage with two short visits to Durham over the weekend and managed to see most of the street performers working the city and have some videos I am trying to edit down and post on You Tube/my blog plus some images too.

I did a little shop at the weekend so am ok for food(got some more of the bags to keep fresh veg last longer)they have worked on onions, potatoes, parsnips, cauliflowers but the carrots...no!

In Poundland I found a book aimed at parents cooking with children(I hate to say kids)with many recipes and fun things to do and lots of pictures but ok for anyone for £1 if you have a local branch and there is one on the shelf you may like it...

"Cook It Together" by Annabel Karmel it is normally worth £5.99, it is slim but has quite a lot in it.

I know I will miss someone out but talk about the salmon and scrambled eggs sounds great(I have done that before and should again)possibly I could have a go at salmon fish cakes once more...

I would probably have mackeral as opposed to kippers.

I have a feeling those who have been having it rough lately will see things work out well and good will come out of what has been a bad situation. Though difficult to see at the time...

Nothing exciting planned so perhaps I will do some washing later...

  • Hello everyone. I'm glad to say the Arthur-it is settling down a bit now so can get on and do things.

The talk of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs reminds me of my DH. :AHe learned about it late in life but loved it - whenever we had a lunch out it had to be somewhere that served this.

I've been reading all the post and can only say kezlou that I agree with everything others have said. You sound like a wonderful mum.:T

My youngest son was always covered in bruises - he seemed to think door and walls would just move out of his way - and I too worried about what the school might think. But his teachers all said they recognised him as a happy though clumsy lad and left it at that.

Congratulations on your silver wedding maryb - hope you have a great day.

And congratulations floss2. Well done indeed.

Hope you enjoy the camping trip fuddle and manage to get all the info you need.

I had a busy day yesterday with one thing and another so have been very lazy up til now but suppose I'd better get breadmaker started at least.
