  • Thank you to you all for your replies about how to speak with youngest DD, we do tell her often that as long as she has done her best we will be more than happy but she is a self harmer so I do worry about her a bit more than the eldest DD.

We had rain all night here and looking a really grey day, overcast and not much chance of sunshine by the looks of things.

Feeling shattered today so going to sit and have a cuppa, maybe do a little bit of cross stitching and then going to try and get some dusting done (depending on energy levels) but I have a lovely DH who has gone off to his third day of 'training' and has said to not worry about doing anything as he will do it when he comes home....I am very lucky :o

As Mrs Lurcherwalker says, this is a lovely thread with some really great advice and lovely kind people. This is by far my favourite thread on MSE.
  • MOMENTS that's exactly what we always said to our girls, do your best and even if you get 2 out of 10 you'll know and we'll know you did your best and be proud of you because of it! My brother on the other hand always told his son that he was not good enough because if he got 9 out of 10 he hadn't tried hard enough, only full marks would do, nothing less! Sad to say but it's noticeable that the relationship with the girls is family, just as it always has been and they are our friends as well as daughters, my nephew on the other hand is close to his mum but only lives in the city nearest us and rarely comes home, even more rarely rings and even spends his holidays in his uni lodgings rather than be at home. Not all are academics but all our youngsters deserve to be appreciated for who they are, yes? Cheers Lyn xxx.

Well done to all those who got through their exams, parents as well as the children :)

Fairypricess thank you so much for your post. I have felt for a long time that school is not really about real education. I could stand on that soapbox all day but I will spare you all.

Years ago some very large businesses were started and run by pretty much uneducated people and they were real characters. How many can we say that about now? same can be asked about TPTB.

I am going camping for a week tomorrow with 7 little boys (6 Gs and 1 ds) so will have a long catch up session when I get back

Fairypricessk sorry I forgot to say please in my pm:o

Lol I am hoping the sea air will make them sleep a bit :)

For anyone that is wondering the kelp has made this trip one to look forward to and I want to do it while I am fit enough. I have only been promising them for the last three years.
  • VJ - DS was 11 weeks prem and left hospital 2 months after due date after 2 ops - one major. So yes, I suppose he will be a little advanced. The thing is, sisters think I am using this an excuse, not that I care cos he is a bright little boy but it does p me off.

My buddleia has just started to flower, must be a record for lateness.
I'm struggling with the low carb now, weight has stuck and I'm living on bacon egg & mushrooms cos I can't be a$$ed trying to cook anything else. But I did get over a stone off.
Going tomorrow to the Broughton Gathering - a wee village hall in the middle of nowhere crammed full of spinners and lovely wool :)
    Ooooh and cake.... ;)

Now that sounds like absolute heaven! Enjoy yourself Mar. I'm envious alright.

Lyn I don't know where I would be without the people on the tough thread. It's not just about the friendly support and friendship but the practical help and knowledge. As you all know I have no-one who can teach me, you all do that. DH knows about my friends on here and even though he calls it the granny thread he appreciates all that you do to help me get through stuff and grow. I no longer think of myself of having mental health problems and I attribute that to having this thread. When I think of the mess I was in those years ago compared to the mostly ok person I am today I can only say thank you really. Fuddle doesn't really suit me any more. I'm much clearer now.

Stock cupboard shopping today! Kids are excited and ready to look for cheapest they can find.

Leek and potato soup for tea. Going to have twinks and custard for tea :) KEZ that jam sponge you made yesterday, where did you get the recipe? Thanks fr no bake - just need peanut butter, will get that next week in shoppig ;)

Camping food. Trying to think of meals that you can add boiling water to or heat up. I will take the frying pan too. So I need to devise the camping shopping list. What can I make before we leave the tent to take for lunch while we're out and about? The site has free freezer pack cooling and I have 4 packs so can have 2 on the go while 2 freezing.

This will be the first time we have camped the frugal way. We haven't been since we got alf and we led a very different life going to pubs for tea, buying sandwiches, visiting cafes for lunch. Non of that this time so I need to think ahead.

Something I have learned about cool blocks is they do not keep frozen long enough. I put 2x2ltr milk bottles full of water in the freezer a few days before we go and use them in my cool box. they last about three days and often still have a bit of ice in them. I also fold up a couple of sleeping bags and cover the boxes during the day.

FUDDLE camping meal I love best

    1 packet of oxtail soup
    1 tin of processed peas
1 tin of carrots and 1 tin of potatoes

make up the soup and when it's cooked drain all the tins and add the veg in and heat through, drooling at the remembered taste!!!

    Can I come? Lyn xxx

You can make up a chicken in sauce frying pan dish with all the ingredients, maybe sweet and sour? and put it in a tupperware in the cold bag and take it with you to cook when you get there, that and some instant noodles makes a good and filling meal, Lyn xxx.
