think an early night is in order with all the chaos of yesterday.

Ginny - so many hugs coming your way, what a terrible thing to happen and hope your OH will be ok too.

AOT - thoughts with you for your god daughter, a good determined spirit will take her a long way and as others have said there is some fantastic support around now.

Kez - words fail me! Well words that pass the sweary word filter anyhow! On an entirely more positive note - just made the lemon curd cake (except used marmalade as someone else said as I have a marmalade mountain due to getting seriously carried away with the Seville in Jan 2011!!) and had a big slice almost straight out of the oven with a glug of cream and it is soooooo lush!!!! Took all of 2 minutes to make - perfect!

DH let me have a lie in this morning as he was working yesterday on his day off. His line manager owes me big time (shop got a really bad report off area so it's all hands to the pump apparently) as he has had him in yesterday on his day off from 6 - 10 which meant I had to do the get up with the kids and pack up the picnic for his mum's 80th day out and he's in again tomorrow from 7-9.30 so that me doing the get up on my own again and the picnic etc for stay and play. Wouldn't be so bothered but my back is playing me up at the moment (got my first physio on Tues) so I kind of rely on him doing all the lifting 3 mornings a week.

MIL's 80th yesterday went well, good day at the farm park, picnic was very much appreciated and we'd arranged for a cake from the farm park and brought candles (well an 8 and a 0 as 80 candles would have needed a bigger cake!) Then we had a nice grown ups meal out last night. We used direct payments for the first time for a sitter and it worked really well so all good.

Need to iron clothes for tomorrow plus extra ones as it is messy play tomorrow! instructions are to bring spare clothes and a towel so it must be pretty good messy play.

Hugs to all who need or want one - X

Still having posts being blocked...good to see the thread ending better than it started. Back from bingo and silly me I missed calling house and did myself out of £20 and on the card game had one more card been called I would've won that. On the quiz we had 16 out of 20(a couple turned out to be trick questions as it happens...)

Oh well...there will be other times...

After 2000 miles of train journey and over 20 connections, the second to last leg for OH, the Eurostar, was delayed. Just now he should have been dashing down Euston road trying to catch the last train headed this way.

I know the train has left, I am guessing the silence means he ain't on it. :(

update - he made it! Now I have to stay up for an hour before driving down the motorway to pick him up
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    Morning everyone,
Hope you are all well and hugs to those that need them at the moment.
Finally made my DH sit down with me and meal plan for the fortnight (hoping there may be some food left to carry over into the 3rd week too but will wait and see before I presume) We are right up against at the moment and I was worrying myself silly because of the cost of x3 school uniforms and shoes etc and our hoover gave up last week so we got a cheap one yesterday but that has eaten into the school uniform budget :(
Have a pie to make with the leftovers from lunch yesterday to make and I promised the boys we would have an arts and craft day today. Also have to collate some paperwork to send off for a review of our IVA which always scares me which is silly I know.
Fuddle - I read a post about you struggling with cake baking, I bake all the time and the best way I have found to do it, is set oven at just below 160c grease and line your tin with greaseproof or parchment, put the cake on the middle shelf of the oven and on the shelf below place a bowl or I use a 5" cake tin with cold water in, helps to keep the cake moist so you can cook it slower for longer without it burning, you can also place a disc of greaseproof over the top of your mixture if the top still burns, hope that helps a bit

    good morning,

Stiltwalker, im glad you like the lemon curd cake made with marmalade - we also made it with jam and that is delicious with custard.

    TEA LOAF

1 mug of strong black tea
    12 0z mixed dried fruit
    4 oz brown sugar
    8 oz self raising flour
    1 sp baking powder
    1/2 tsp mixed spices
    1 beaten egg

soak mixed fruit in tea overnight.
grease and line a 2lb loaf tin with grease proof paper. set oven to 150 degrees, while mixing.
mixed everything together in a large bowl - add the baking powder last.

spoon the mixture into the tin and level out the top.
place on the middle shelf of the oven and cook for 50 mins to an hour - check asfter 50 mins.
cool in the tin for around 10 mins and then turn out onto a wire rack. Leave until cold then remove the grease proof paper. Place in an air tight box and leave for a day or 2 if you can resist. Enjoy!!!

Hope this makes sense. I make the recipe with basic range fried fruit - in fact all the ingredients. Makes a very filling and cheap cake.

vj never tried aran wool. I would make it with aran just to try it :)

Thank you both for the fruit cake recipes :)
    Will definitely be trying them.

you know what i thought of making the lemon curd cake with either jam or marmalade.
Do you change any of the sugar quantities or is it just the same.

Feeling a bit more positive today, managed to get a couple of hours sleep, woke up with the two black cats sprawled all over me so i couldn't move. You can tell its getting colder they hijacking more of the bed and forcing OH out of it :rotfl:
hee hee more room for me :rotfl::D

Came down downstairs to open the back door for them, the tabby runs straight wowls and run straight back in. This huge wowl sound came from the living room so i ran in and there scratching at the fire is the tabby, sees me, runs starts grabbing hold of my fingers. The little moo wants me to put the fire on

    Its not that blumming cold!
  • How funny Kezlou! The one we are minding has been a terror all night, racing circuits through the house, scratching doors, pawing rugs and preferring the bathroom floor to the litter box. She can be equally emphatic about wanting to go out to the garden, yesterday she tried wending herself around my legs the whole time I was cooking, mewing at the back door. If a cat wanted the heating on I think I'd have to ask it what it was thinking, fur coat and wanting the fire as well!;)

AOT, I'm so glad to hear that the news is better than thought. I will be keeping you in my thoughts today.

I'm meeting a colleague for a drink after work today. She's been reading some of my work, and we used to meet up more frequently but things have been so busy lately.

Other than that, a quiet day of plodding along.

A friend of mine that I used to be very close to back in Uni has just sent me photos of herself (fully clothed, you'll wonder when you finish reading!). She appears to have, ahem. Had some work done? I had trouble knowing what to say. It just seems so far removed from anything I can empathise with. I hope I responded suitably. The only thing I could think was, but their income isn't stable, I hope they have an emergency fund before splashing out on surgery! Not to mention all of the new shirts/lingerie! I guess I'm just too MSE compared to my old L.A. days.:rotfl: On a more serious note, she has struggled with eating disorders in the past, and this makes me wonder if she is struggling with her body again. Body image is one of those things that I really wish our society would be OS about again!:(

Princess, haven't heard from you lately. How is everything?

Possession, big hugs, and welcome home!
SDG, Deep breaths. I hope the anxiety monster isn't hanging over you as much today.
  • Carlymummy, good idea with the two week meal plan. I also love the baking tips.
