Ah fuddle I have avoided pinterest for ages as I was spending far too long getting loads of ideas from there, but had a quick look at the olive oil candles and as pops says they stay liquid so you need a glass jar, I would assume it would need to be able to take high temps as well, but they look lovely :)
  • You should be able to get glass votive holders easily for oil 'candles' - when you light a candle, the wax liquefies anyway so you can just use normal candle holders. You can also use empty orange or lemon halves, I bet that would smell lovely too.

The sausages and meatballs turned out really well - sauce a bit runny but that'll thicken on reheating. Made 5 portions including the one I had for dinner tonight. Is it just me though, or do modern slow cookers run really hot?

Went for an afternoon nap and ended up sleeping all afternoon, clearly I needed it! That's the good thing about slow cookers though - if plans change or someone is late, food can wait quite happily in there without getting ruined.

A jam jar? Would it simply be a case of putting a wick in olive oil?

    Morning all

Up early thanks to fluffy kitten who was trying to get under the duvet with me, purring her head off and attacking my feet at 5am. She really has seemed to make a full recovery, eating loads and keeps coming to me for cuddles and brushing. She was very much a "mans" cat before she got ill but now she's my best friend.

Bulk ordered cat food via @mazon yesterday, the pack that all the cats will eat is normally £14 in store, it was £9.50 on there so ordered a months worth and have set up the recurring order. Also ordered a big bag of parrot food, locally I have to pay £11 for 3kg, online I got 12.5kg for £20 delivered.

Since we're up early we'll be off to a couple of local bootfairs, having got some great bargains yesterday I'm hoping for more of the same today. Think I may need to dig out a cardi though as its decidedly chilly here at the moment.

I too had a blanket over my legs last night (I was crocheting it at the time) ive now got the laborious task of weaving in the ends and then I need to put an edge round it. This ones a new sofa blanket as I've changed the colour scheme in the living room, I've been making patchwork cushion covered too, all different, all made from scrappy bits and bobs, they look great, I just need to finish them.

Kidkat - enjoy your trip to London, when are you going? I'm taking DD2 to the natural history museum on Wednesday, we've not been to the museum since she was about 7/8 so she can't really remember it.

ETA - just read this blog post and thought it was worth sharing. http://http://www.patchofpuddles.co.uk/archives/10405/do-not-say-they-drive-you-mad

Enjoy your makes pooky. My crochet days have halted till payday. The odd ball I was using to make my grannies I let the children people use for crafts and instead of cutting from the end of the wool they've hacked into the wool. Craft box - 1 crochet - 0

    Morning everyone,
A nice quiet day here today, the sun is peeking out from behind the clouds so will try and get a load of washing on mostly bedding as soon as I can shift DH from his pit :D
Off to prepare the chicken for lunch am drooling just thinking about it (for money reasons we haven't had one for a few weeks I have really missed it, and the leftover chicken pie on a Monday too ;) )
    Have a good day x
Proud mummy to 3 beautiful boys! :D
  • Morning Toughies, lovely day here with sunshine and blue skies. Kitten has discovered that he can slide down behind the sofa cushions and hide but he's being very scratchy so I've had to take off the back cushions and he's now hiding under the scatter cushions with his ball of wool! I slept better last night because I shut him in the kitchen, no 4.30 kitten sitting and purring meant I didn't surface until 6.30, feel much better as a result.

FUDDLE for the olive oil candles I think you hold the wick upright with a float, I think a piece of light wood on a piece of polystyrene foam but there will be loads of how to's on the interwebulator

Housework and ironing for me today, DD comes back tomorrow evening so I'll pop to the town and get something in for a light supper for her when she gets back here. I'm looking forward to going home though, back to my boys and things, I've missed the village too and the doggy walks and my garden so it will be lovely to get back to my patch. I'm hoping the wild blackberries will be ready so I can make a big batch of bramble jelly to see us through the winter. He Who Knows has started the cider making already and has 3 demi johns bubbling away already using early windfall apples, I hate to say it again but it is beginning to feel like late summer/early autumn out there isn't it?

MOLLY hope you had a better night last night and have a better day today, it's not nice being so tired is it pet? Hate the idea of you being so scared for the operation in September, wish I could do something to help but all I can do is send you some hugs and say we are here if you need us and all wishing you well, I hope it helps to know we care, Love Lyn xxx.

    Morning All,
Sun is shining here, seems a little chilly...I feel like staying put but will try and make myself go outdoors and see something.

Fuddle, Going by the site that you linked to, yes that would appear that is all there is to making such a candle. But as it says you need that wire gadget thing to keep the wick upright. Otherwise it will just float on oil, perhaps it would sink or burn its full length and the flame would be too large?

I'm not sure where you buy wicks having never made any myself...I think someone mentioned e-bay but I'm not sure...

    Morning everyone,

It's cloudy at the moment down here on the coast but we're promised sunshine later in the day. Taken the dog to the park and he far more enjoys the cooler weather!

Nothing exciting planned today.......a visit to Mr T and maybe some study - my OH has been working like a maniac recently and just needs today to rest.

On the subject of crochet.......I've taught myself how to crochet granny squares and have crocheted a LOT of squares using up my odd balls of wool in order to make a throw for the sofa. Really pleased with it but am now nearing the time when I have to join it altogether. I was planning on edging it when I'm done but I understand you can also crochet the squares together, as opposed to just sewing them up? Is this easy? I just think if I could crochet them all together in a darker colour, together with the edging, it would pull it altogether. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial?

    Enjoy your day everyone xx

I haven't time to look properly but this company may give you some ideas about oil candles.

Pinkdebster you can crochet the squares together. I do them into strips then join the strips together.
