hello all, been on my holibobs.
Welcome new people, my brief bio is
Married with two kids, V is 17 and J is 14, I will be 50 at the end of the year  (I keep saying it so that I start to believe it). I teach part time at a university and am about to extend my hours to 4 days a week. Not sure how I will manage but it is a strategic decision based on the future of my school. Sometimes I have been lucky enough to travel abroad to teach there on a very short term basis. I love home cooking, knitting and sewing and am experimenting with what I can grow in the Garden. We are not a materialistic family but OH and I do like to spend out to travel - albeit on a budget (apart from yesterday when we went to Disneyland, courtesy of the money I earned teaching in Korea last year).
Am catching up, more later as I have to change trains nowI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
the cake - when we lived in the last rented house we had a massive issue with DS9 peeing on the dining room carpet, (we have worked out why he does it now so can mostly prevent it) however even after using a rug doctor machine it still smelt awful, someone recommended a bottle (turquoise coloured) of pet smells remover from pets at home - it was about £8 for a large bottle, but it worked when nothing else did. Well worth it to save carpets/curtains.
MrsLW - I freeze my berries straight away too, I find they keep much better and taste better afterwards, especially in puddings.
pinkdebster -((hugs)) I hope the kelp works for you
AOT - I regularly freeze soups, I have those pour and store bags for soup and they are brilliant.0 -
Kitkat I keep meaning to get some of those. Are yours from Lakeland?
My hands are bad now after making soup and lifting pans around so I think it is time to switch off and take painkillers.
Hope everyone has a good night.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
AOT - I bought mine at either home bargains or wilkos - cant remember which it was.0

My boy is looking for me at home according to He Who Knows and keeps getting into my armchair for a nap, I've been away for two weeks now, the longest I've ever left him for I expect I'll get slobbered and licked to death when I get home on Tuesday. He has apparently started to want an evening walk with his Dad and always takes him up the forecourt of every pub he passes, I wonder how much of that is coming down the lead??? Take care of yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.
Thank you for thinking of me today. I have mostly been asleep as I had a really bad night but feeling brighter just now. Dogs are very quick to learn new routines and mine are quite psychic at times. Sometimes you just have to think "walks" and they are there looking expectantly at you. I bet you get a very warm welcome on your return as Docky is missing you. In the days when DH worked in Japan for months I used to have to put his smelly dressing gown (especially not washed) in Pop's basket for her to sleep on at nightI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
When the Alfred was a pup and having accidents indoors we used bio washing powder mixed in warm water. The theory was that the enzymes would rid the smells so the dog would no longer associate that area as his toilet.
The carpet in the old house was old and a bit stinky anyway so not sure if it worked other than Alfred didn't re-use those areas after a mistake.
Could well be worth a little box of bio washing powder cake.0 -
PINKDEBSTER.........
I hope that the sea kelp helps you.......
I washed my 13.5 tog feather and down king size duvet today , its very near dry but I will let it hang outside for at least 3 days ,because it so heavy and thick, and when you wash anything with feathers in they matter a bit so ive been given it a good shake and then hanging it back on the line, it smells so fresh and clean..........
I just writ a a big post and ive lost the s*d, it wouldnt send , dont it dam well rile you when that happens.?.....
Lovely today , but a bit of cloud, 21 degrees so that bearable.........I hope your all well...Sheila0 -
Sorry you had a rotten night Molly, glad you're feeling a little better now. We always use an old fleece of He Who Knows for Docky when he has to be away, I think it's more because I've never been away for more than a week before and he doesn't know what's happening, but he's eating again so I think he must be settling down, I've missed him as much as he's missed me I have to confess, I'm looking after DDs kitten while she's away and he is soooooo naughy, give me lurchers anyday they are naughty too but goofy with it and make you laugh, kittens are made entirely from sharp scratchy bits when they decide to be and not nearly as comfortable as dogs!!! Hope you have a better night tonight and feel very much better tomorrow, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Just seen a pin on Pinterest that suggested making candles out of olive oil. Is this possible and if so does any one know how?
Sat this evening with a fleecey blanket on my legs. It won't be long now huh? Hopefully the amount of natural vitamin D we've been able to get will see us through.0 -
Fuddle I get the impression that olive oil candles remain in liquid form and you need a suitable glass jar. Its like a mini oil lamp...I'd have never thought about it until you mentioned it."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
